Apple is now assembling the iPhone 7 in addition to the iPhone 6S and iPhone SE in India through its manufacturing partner Wistron. All the three devices are being assembled at the plant in Bengaluru and feature an “assembled in India” label on the rear panel.
The assembling of the iPhone 7 at Wistron’s facility in India started in March after Wistron received an official approval on its INR 5 Crore plan that caters to expanding the “Made In India” initiative of manufacturing major Apple products in the country itself. The company plans on using 43 acres of land for their new Apple manufacturing unit making way for more than 10,000 employment opportunities.
Considering the fact that the iPhone 7 will now be assembled locally, the company might offer a price cut for the same. Though, it seems rather far fetched when the brand opts for using the margins for making aggressive sales as well as improve their marketing strategies. The officials have yet to confirm on the price cuts.
Commenting on the assembling of the iPhone 7, Apple stated: “We are proud to be producing iPhone 7 in Bengaluru for our local customers furthering our long-term commitment in India”.
According to the latest reports, Apple has been struggling to maintain its customers in the key markets like China as well as India. Thus in order to reinvent themselves in the Indian market, the brand is expecting to win back the customers by offering price cuts and discounts in addition to the “assembled in India” tag. Assembling iPhone 7 will help the brand gain major attention from the customers in India.
Commenting on the same, Navkender Singh, Research Director IDC India stated: “iPhone 7 is a low-risk kind of product for Apple to make out of India. To that extent, it (local manufacturing of iPhone 7) is about revalidating Apple’s India manufacturing capability before they scale up to other models,”
