Google to Use Recycled Materials in Pixel Phones by 2022

In a recent update from the American multinational company Google, from 2022, all the products under the ‘Made by Google’ brand will be manufactured from recycled materials. In an official tweet by the brand, it said – “Starting in 2022, 100% of Made by Google products will include recycled materials with a drive to maximize recycled content wherever possible”.

‘Made by Google’ is a third-generation family of popular consumer products. The portfolio includes smartphones like Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL along with Pixel Slate and the Google Home Hub. The company always launch products that quickly become customer favourite and this time the brand has taken green measures regarding its products because of which by 2022, all the products will completely switch to recycled alternatives.

A number of ideas were put up in front of the company with respect to the initiative. As per one of the reports by the Fast Company, a Google engineer proposed an idea of using a special type of fabric that will be manufactured from a recycled bottle.

According to the engineer, the new kind of fabric can replace the traditional fabric, which is manufactured from industry-standard polyester fabric that is made from virgin plastic. The fabric can be used to make official cases for Pixel phones and to make the exterior casing of the Google Home Hub. There have not been any reports of the idea of getting the approval by the company but the work is in process. Further updates have been there that the company has already started using recycled bottle plastic in Chromecast devices.

Regarding its future ventures in recent statements made by the company, it said – “The team was able to reduce emissions by 40% by switching from air shipments to cargo.” Following the same trend, the brand is determined to replace its previous shipment options to 100% carbon neutral options by 2020. It will be interesting to witness the reaction of Google fans regarding this initiative.
