Reliance Jio revealed the JioPhone 2 a few weeks ago. The sale of the new JioPhone flagship begins at 12 PM today on the official website for Jio. The phone will be available in a flash sale and it might run out of stock within minutes of the beginning of the sale. It is quite easy to apply for a JioPhone 2. All you have to do is visit the official website or the MyJio application and select the phone from there. Then you have to enter your pin code and provide details such as name, email, and phone number. After that, it is a simple matter of just paying the asking price of INR 2,999 for the phone and you will get the confirmation details for the order.
Apart from the JioPhone 2, the company also launched new prepaid plans, starting at INR 49 with 1GB of data and 50 SMS. These new plans top out at INR 153, which offers 42GB of data and unlimited SMS within the validity period.
The dual SIM, qwerty keyboard supporting phone uses similar components as the first version. The first device became popular with its 4G connectivity feature, and Jio plans to repeat the success story through this second generation model. This one comes with the same 2.4-inch display, now placed horizontally in comparison to the vertical placement on the JioPhone.
Even the resolution stays precisely similar to the first version. The newly introduced qwerty keyboard comes with additional 4-way navigation bar for quick access to the shortcuts. JioPhone 2 comes with 512MB of RAM, 4GB internal storage and expandable memory option through microSD. They have offered a 2MP rear camera for occasional photography while front comes with a 0.3MP camera for video calling. The phone comes with a 3.5mm audio jack, 4G VoLTE connectivity, Bluetooth 4.1 LE and NFC. The battery capacity is decently limited to 2000 mAh.
The company has not clarified about processor availability on the JioPhone 2 but, one can expect Spreadtrum or an entry-level Snapdragon processor like the older JioPhone. There are new offerings on the JioPhone 2 which will include Google Maps, Facebook, and YouTube. WhatsApp is not available right now, but the company has promised to bring it to the phone soon.
