Kawasaki Motors Europe unveiled a groundbreaking motorcycle model, the Ninja 7 HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), on October 6, 2023. The Ninja 7 HEV represents a unique hybrid electric motorcycle that seamlessly integrates a 451cc parallel-twin combustion engine with a 9-kilowatt (12PS) traction motor and a 48-volt battery pack.
Power and Performance
In terms of power and performance, the Ninja 7 HEV boasts a remarkable capability. It is capable of delivering a claimed power output of 43.5 kilowatts, which equates to nearly 58.3PS. The bike’s potential can be further boosted to 51.1 kW, approximately 68.6PS when utilizing the e-Boost feature. This innovative feature was first introduced in the recently unveiled Z e-1 and e-1 models.
Design and Size
The design of the Ninja 7 HEV is reminiscent of motorcycles with engine capacities in the range of 650-700cc, both in terms of size and performance characteristics. This similarity to larger-displacement bikes likely influenced Kawasaki’s decision to name it the ‘Ninja 7’. Additionally, Kawasaki promises that the bike will have fuel efficiency that is comparable to a standard 250cc bike. While we don’t have the complete technical specifications, Kawasaki has provided a glimpse of the features that will be incorporated into this model:
- Full-Color TFT Display: The Ninja 7 HEV will feature a vibrant full-color TFT display, similar to the one used in the new Kawasaki e-1 and Z e-1 models.
- Automatic Launch Position Finder: This innovative feature automatically selects the first gear, ensuring that the motorcycle is ready to move from a standstill position.
- Idle Stop: The idle stop function halts the combustion engine when the motorcycle is stationary, conserving fuel. While common in some scooters, this feature is not yet widespread in motorcycles.
- Push-Button Shifting: Instead of a traditional clutch lever, the Ninja 7 HEV will employ push-button shifting on the handlebar, providing a more convenient and user-friendly experience.
- Three Riding Modes: The motorcycle offers three distinct riding modes: Eco Hybrid, Ev, and Sport Hybrid, allowing riders to adapt to different riding conditions and preferences.
- Walk Mode: This mode offers low-speed reverse and forward capabilities, a feature initially introduced on the Ninja e-1 and Z e-1.
The Ninja 7 HEV which Kawasaki unveiled offers a glimpse of motorcycle technology to come and highlights the possibilities of hybrid electric vehicles in the market and this ground-breaking bike embraces contemporary electric and hybrid technologies to improve the riding experience while delivering power and performance.
