After unveiling the Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X last week, Bajaj Auto has today launched both these motorcycles in the Indian markets. Triumph has co-developed these bikes with Bajaj Auto and they will be manufactured in India at Bajaj’s manufacturing plant in Chakan. The Speed 400 will reach the Triumph showrooms across India later this month while the Scrambler 400X will be available starting from October 2023. For now, Bajaj has only revealed the price for the Speed 400, and it is available with an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 2.23 lakh.
The new Triumphs are pleasing to the eye as the overall design is new and modern. In terms of looks, the Triumph Speed 400 does bear some resemblance to the Speed Twin 900. Due to its identical suspension travel to that of the Speed 400, the Scrambler 400X does not have the conventional scrambler appearance. But the Scrambler 400X does have a few off-road-oriented features, such as a pair of hand guards, a split seat, dual-purpose tires, and a different exhaust system.
The Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X are powered by a 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. This engine comes with a six-speed transmission system on both bikes.
The Speed 400 has 43mm upside-down forks and a mono-shock with preload adjustment at the rear. The Scrambler 400X has the same forks, but it has a longer travel rear shock. The Speed 400 has 17-inch alloy wheels but the Scrambler 400X has a 19-inch front alloy wheel. The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X sport a 230mm disc at the back and a 300mm disc up front. Both bikes have dual-channel ABS.
The Speed 400 has a wheelbase of 1,377 mm, while the Scrambler 400X is a little longer at 1,418 mm. The seat heights are also different, with the Speed 400 measuring 790 mm and the Scrambler 400X measuring 835 mm. The Scrambler 400X is also heavier than the Speed 400, weighing in at 185 kg compared to the Speed 400’s 176 kg.
Both bikes come with a range of features, including ride-by-wire, slipper-assist clutch, switchable traction control, LED lights throughout, and a part digital-analogue instrument cluster. The cluster displays ride data such as fuel level, gear position, and two odometers. There is also a C-type charging port as standard.
The Triumph Speed 400 is available in three colours: Carnival Red, Caspian Blue, and Phantom Black. The Scrambler 400X is available in three colours: Khaki Green, Carnival Red, and Phantom Black. Here are the official photos of the new 400cc Bajaj-Triumph bikes –
