In order to curb the effects of COVID-19 pandemic, the government of India has announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown that will ensure social distancing at all costs. To ensure stricter implementation of the rules, the Delhi Government has deployed a squad of 40 special COVID-19 patrol motorcycles that will work towards creating awareness of the pandemic in the national capital.
The initiative has been taken by South Delhi Police for letting the citizens aware of the lockdown and to decrease the footfall in the capital. The 40-motorcycle squad that has been deployed includes the likes of Honda CB Shine, TVS Apache RTR 160, and the Bajaj Pulsar 150. All the motorcycles have been adorned in the bright yellow shade to set them apart from the stock model and features #Covid_Patrol stickers on the fuel tank.
Deploying these 40 motorcycles in the national capital, the Twitter handle of the DCP South Delhi tweeted – “#COVIDPatrol Bikes by Team South will ensure that #21daysLockdown is enforced through awareness and prosecution and that strict action is taken against those who violate the rules as #DelhiPoliceFightsCOVID.”
The motorcycles have been specifically offered to the patrol officers to keep a regular check of the lockdown rules and regulation in the area and to ensure if the citizens are remaining in their houses and taking care of the sanitation. The patrol officers will further use the motorcycles to keep a special check on the borders of the capital as well as a lookout for the lockdown violators and suspicious vehicles.
The 40-motorcycle squad will further ensure if the people are maintaining the required distance at the grocery stores, milk booths, produce outlets and more. The patrol officers will keep a check on the footfall in the state while ensuring proper safety of the stranded citizens in the nearby shelter homes.
Commenting on the deployment of 40 motorcycles, ACP Atul Kumar Thakur, South District Police, New Delhi further stated – “In order to adopt strict social distancing and isolation measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 and implementation of the order of lockdown in the whole of territorial jurisdiction of NCT of Delhi up to 14 April 2020, various initiatives have been taken to break the chain of the spread of this disease.”
