By BYD, an electric vehicle specialist, has introduced the Seal electric sedan in India, with prices starting at Rs 41 lakh (ex-showroom). The Seal is available in three trims: Dynamic Range, Premium Range, and Performance, with the Premium Range variant promising a claimed range of up to 650 km. Exterior Design
The Seal boasts a modern and quirky design with sleek LED headlights and C-shaped LED DRLs. The front bumper’s stylish appearance is further enhanced by additional lighting elements located adjacent to the air dams. From the side, the Seal’s sporty body contours are evident, complemented by 19-inch alloy wheels with a unique five-spoke design. The Seal’s linked LED tail lamps with a water drop pattern and faux diffuser-style trim enhance its aggressive appearance from the back.
Interior Design
Inside, the Seal offers an all-black interior theme with ambient lighting elements throughout the cabin. The minimalist interior is dominated by a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that can be rotated to both horizontal and vertical positions, and a sleek center console housing a crystallized gear selector. The luxurious inside is further improved by bolstered sports seats, and the driver is welcomed with a massive 3-spoke steering wheel.
Features
The Seal EV comes equipped with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity, a panoramic glass roof, powered front seats with heating and ventilation, ambient lighting, and a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system. Safety features include nine airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS.
Powertrain Specifications
Different powertrain options are available for each of the three variants: Dynamic Range, Premium Range, and Performance. While the latter has an all-wheel-drive dual electric motor arrangement, the previous two have a rear-wheel drive single e-motor setup. The powertrain specifications of the Seal EV are as follows:
- Dynamic Range: Single-motor RWD, 204 PS power, 310 Nm torque, 61.4 kWh battery capacity, 510 km WLTC claimed range.
- Premium Range: Single-motor RWD, 313 PS power, 360 Nm torque, 82.5 kWh battery capacity, 650 km WLTC claimed range.
- Performance: Dual-motor AWD, 530 PS power, 670 Nm torque, 82.5 kWh battery capacity, 580 km WLTC claimed range.
Pricing and Competition
Prices for the BYD Seal EV start from Rs 41 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom). It is marketed as a substitute for other high-end EVs, such as the BMW i4, Volvo XC40 Recharge, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6.
