Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, is set to launch its first 440cc motorcycle in March 2024. The new bike, which is based on the Harley-Davidson X440, will be positioned as a power roadster with some design inspiration from the Yamaha MT-01.
The Hero 440 bike will be built around the same chassis and engine as the X440. But the sub-frame on the Hero 440 roadster will be different. The overall styling will be in line with Hero’s new design language, which is characterized by sharp lines and aggressive angles. The bike will feature a muscular fuel tank, a single-piece seat, and a stubby tail section.
The same 440cc, single-cylinder, oil & air-cooled engine will power the Hero 440 as the Harley X440. This engine with a 6-speed transmission system produces 27 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The gear ratios on the upcoming Hero 440 will likely be different in order to suit the nature of this Hero motorcycle.
It is expected that Hero might price the upcoming bike under Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be sold alongside the Harley-Davidson X440 at Hero’s new premium showrooms. The new Hero 440 is expected to compete with the likes of the Royal Enfield Scram 440, KTM 390 Duke, and Yamaha MT-03. It will be a welcome addition to the Indian motorcycle market, which is currently dominated by 125cc and 200cc bikes.
