Hero World 2024 showcased a plethora of exciting models, with the Mavrick 440 and Xtreme 125R stealing the limelight. However, a hidden gem among them was the Surge S32, a groundbreaking electric vehicle developed by Hero’s startup, Surge. Owned by Hero MotoCorp and nurtured within HeroHatch, Surge has dedicated years to developing a cutting-edge electric vehicle platform known as the S32.
Innovative Modular Design for Swift Transformation
The S32’s uniqueness lies in its modular design, allowing it to seamlessly convert from a three-wheeler to a two-wheeler in an astonishingly short time of just 3 minutes. Envision a rickshaw without a front wheel – the e-scooter neatly fits into this structure and functions as the front wheel. This design not only provides an innovative approach to urban commuting but also offers users the flexibility to detach the e-scooter for independent use.
Collaboration with Authorities for a Pioneering Registration Category
The revolutionary nature of the S32 prompted Hero and Surge to collaborate with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, leading to the establishment of a new registration category named ‘L2 -5’. This category distinctly classifies the S32 as a “2-Wheeler-3-Wheeler Combi Module,” capable of being separated or combined as per the user’s requirements.
Diverse Configurations Tailored for Varied Applications
Surge has ambitious plans to offer the S32 in a myriad of configurations, each featuring a unique design for the rickshaw section. Options range from passenger-centric designs to covered and non-covered goods-carrying configurations. Depending on the intended application, power output and battery capacity will vary, with peak values of 6kW for the scooter and an impressive 10kW for the rickshaw. The top speeds are rated at 60kph for the scooter and 45kph for the rickshaw.
Utilizing Cutting-Edge Battery Technology from Hero’s Vida E-Scooter
The S32 boasts the utilization of removable batteries sourced from Hero’s Vida e-scooter. The scooter section can accommodate two battery packs, while the rickshaw can house as many as six, with a minimum of four. This results in a substantial battery capacity of 3.87kWh for the scooter and an impressive 11.62kWh for the rickshaw, ensuring extended ranges and enhanced usability.
From Concept to Reality: Launching Soon
The Surge S32, initially unveiled as the Quark 1 concept in 2020, has undergone substantial evolution and refinement over the years. As the vehicle nears production-ready status, Surge is gearing up for an official launch later this year. The Surge S32 promises to introduce an innovative, adaptable, and eco-friendly electric vehicle solution, poised to redefine urban transportation dynamics.
