Competitive Pricing

Rivals and Positioning

The NX500 enters the arena primarily competing against the Benelli TRK502. As the second most affordable twin-cylinder adventure bike, it faces competition from the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the KTM 390 Adventure in terms of performance.

Design and Features

The NX500 boasts a sleek design, drawing inspiration from the iconic Honda NX range of the 80s and 90s. The bike features a new headlight cowl, redesigned fuel tank extensions, all-LED headlights and a TFT console with smartphone connectivity. The Dakar-esque appeal adds a touch of adventure to its aesthetics.

Weight Reduction and Modern Upgrades

With a 3kg reduction in weight (196kg kerb), the NX500 incorporates modern upgrades, including switchable traction control, an updated ECU for improved acceleration, and a 0.2-litre smaller fuel tank. The cast aluminum wheels contribute to the bike’s contemporary appeal.

Unchanged Core Mechanics

While receiving a fresh design and modern features, the core mechanics of the NX500 remain unchanged. It houses the same 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, delivering 47.5PS at 8600rpm and 43Nm at 6500rpm. The bike maintains its efficient 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch.

Underpinnings and Safety Features

The NX500 inherits the underpinnings from the updated CB500X, featuring a 41mm Showa SFF-BP fork, a linked 5-step preload adjustable monoshock, and dual-channel ABS. The braking system includes dual 296mm petal discs at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear.

Honda’s strategic launch of the NX500 brings a compelling option to adventure bike enthusiasts in India. With its competitive pricing, modern features and a design that pays homage to Honda’s off-road legacy the NX500 is poised to make a significant impact in the twin-cylinder adventure bike segment. As deliveries kick off in February 2024, the Honda NX500 stands as a tempting choice for riders seeking an exhilarating adventure on Indian roads.
