Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) launched its smallest and most affordable SUV, the Exter, in India today. The Exter is available in five trims – EX, S, SX, SX(O) and SX(O) Connect – and is priced starting at Rs 6 lakh and going up to Rs 9.32 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
A 1.2-litre NA four-cylinder petrol engine powers the Hyundai Exter. This engine produces a max power of 83hp and 114Nm of peak torque. Hyundai offers the engine with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission system. The CNG-spec version of the Exter produces 69hp and 95.2Nm of peak torque and is available only with the manual gearbox.
The Exter is available in a total of 9 colours, including 6 monotones and 3 dual-tones. The interior is available in 3 colour options – Cosmic Blue, Light Grey and Light Sage. Here is the complete ex-showroom price list for the new Hyundai Exter micro SUV –

The Exter is equipped with a host of features, including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Blue-link connected car technology, a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic projector headlamps, keyless entry and go, an automatic climate control system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, in-built navigation, connected car tech, voice-activated commands in multiple languages, a factory-fitted dashcam, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
In terms of safety, the Exter comes equipped with six airbags, ESC, hill assist control, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and camera, three-point seatbelt and seatbelt reminders for all seats, and ISOFIX anchorages. These are offered as optional extras on the less expensive E and S trims, while they are standard on the SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Connect trims.
The Tata Punch, Citroen C3, and Maruti Suzuki Ignis are the primary targets of Exter’s direct competition. For its price, it will also see competition from lower variants of the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
Hyundai has already received over 11,000 bookings for the Exter, of which AMT variants make up around 38%, while factory-fitted CNG trims account for 20%. The Exter is currently available for booking at all Hyundai dealerships across India. The first deliveries of the Exter are expected to commence in the coming weeks.
