DC Design’s owner Dilip Chhabria was recently arrested for cheating and fraud in the DC Avanti loan scam case, and now he is being charged with the second FIR lodged against him for cheating Kapil Sharma. The popular actor-comedian has accused DC of fraud and according to him, he paid Dilip Chhabria a whopping amount of INR 5.7 crores for a vanity van that he never received.
Kapil Sharma had visited Mumbai’s Crime Branch Unit a few days back to register a complaint against Chhabria. Back in 2017, the comedian contacted DC Design to design a vanity van for him, and he paid INR 5.3 crores to Chhabria between May 2017 and May 2018.
After transacting the agreed amount, the comedian found that there was no progress in the matter. Kapil approached Chhabria once again in July 2018, where DC Design’s owner extracted more money from Kapil’s pocket and demanded a sum of INR 40 lakhs as GST which the comedian paid in July 2018 itself.
There was no progress even after paying a total amount of INR 5.7 crores, even then, Chhabria again demanded an extra INR 60 lakhs for delivery of the vanity van. Kapil Sharma then approached the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in 2019 and NCLT froze Chhabria’s account.
Despite Kapil Sharma’s complaint, Chhabria then sent a bill of around INR 12 lakhs for the vehicle parking and housing spare parts in the premises of the company. Upon receiving this bill, Sharma then approached the Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW ) and complained to the wing. The branch has registered a separate case and will investigate further into it.
After Chhabria’s arrest in December last year, Sharma met with The Mumbai Police Commissioner, Shri Param Bir Singh regarding his complaint against Chhabria. The CIU informed the respected Esplanade Court about Sharma’s complaint and took the Court’s permission for Chhabria’s arrest.
Upon request and further probing in the matter in December 2020, Mumbai Crime Branch arrested Chhabria claiming he procured loans for DC Avanti from non-banking financial companies by posing as a customer for DC cars.
