Renault’s much-anticipated new-generation Duster has made an early appearance through leaked images, offering a comprehensive look at the exterior design of the SUV. Set to be unveiled globally in Portugal, the new Duster, known as the Dacia Duster in certain markets, exhibits a revamped and larger profile, drawing inspiration from the Bigster concept.
Design Highlights
- Bigster Concept Influence: The new Duster seamlessly integrates design cues from the Bigster concept, presenting a rugged and robust appearance. While maintaining the Duster’s iconic styling, the design takes on a more contemporary and bold character.
- Distinctive Front Fascia: The Y-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps connect with chrome elements on the slim grille, creating a distinctive and modern front fascia. Vertical air vents in the bumper flank circular fog light units, and a spacious lower grille area adds a touch of aggression.
- Iconic Elements: Retaining classic Duster elements, the SUV features large squared-off wheel arches, roof rails, and a spoiler reminiscent of the Bigster concept. The tapering rear quarter glass connects with the predecessor, offering a blend of continuity and evolution.
- Profile Enhancements: The side profile introduces a blacked-out vertical ‘shadow line’ below the mirrors, stylish blacked-out alloy wheels (expected on top variants), and a notable kink in the cladding below the rear doors. The design maintains a balance between sophistication and off-road aesthetics.
- Rear Styling: The sharp, V-shaped tail-lights enhance the rear appeal, while the rear haunches, a prominent feature of the previous Duster, have been subtly toned down for a more streamlined look.
Powertrain Offerings
- Global Engine Options: The new Duster will offer three global engine options, including an entry-level 120hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol; a 140hp, 1.2-litre petrol hybrid; and a powerful 170hp, 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, making it the most potent Duster to date.
- Indian Market Considerations: For the Indian market, Renault is exploring strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, aiming to deliver efficient performance akin to diesel-powered vehicles.
India Launch Schedule
The new Renault Duster is slated to enter the Indian market by Diwali 2025, re-entering the fiercely competitive midsize SUV segment. Positioned against formidable rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the new Duster is poised to make a strong statement in terms of design, performance, and innovation.
Upcoming Variants
Nissan will also introduce its version of the Duster, and a seven-seat variant, likely named the Bigster, is on the horizon, offering expanded options to meet diverse consumer preferences. The new-generation Duster is expected to continue the legacy of its predecessor while setting new benchmarks in the midsize SUV segment.
