Mahindra Thar 5-Door: A Glimpse into the Future (Expected: Early – Mid 2024)

The much-anticipated Mahindra Thar 5-Door is set to make a grand entrance, undergoing exterior transformations that include an H pattern grille, distinctive round LED DRLs reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, a robust plastic front bumper, and a flat bonnet. Sporting an extra door on each side, square windows, a step-up side plate, and stylish 18-inch alloy wheels, this variant boasts a single-pane sunroof, distinguishing it from the 3-door version with its removable hard-top and soft-top roofs.

Inside, the 5-Door Thar showcases a new 10.25-inch infotainment system with minimal buttons, familiar AC vents, and HVAC controls. The steering wheel design echoes the XUV700 SUV, complemented by a driver’s armrest and a central armrest for convenient storage, along with two front cupholders. Mahindra has upgraded the seat upholstery to exude a premium feel.

Under the hood, expect the 5-Door Thar to potentially house the same 2.2L Turbo Diesel and 2.0L Turbo Petrol Engines, with heightened power and torque outputs. Transmission options may include the 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes.

Loaded with features, the 5-Door Thar is likely to boast a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, automatic climate control, a single-pane sunroof, semi-digital instrument cluster (akin to Scorpio-N), 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, reverse-parking camera with rear parking sensors, hill assist, hill descent control, traction control, disc brakes for all wheels, limited slip differential, and a comprehensive safety package with 6 airbags and more.

Mahindra has officially confirmed the launch of the 5-Door Thar in 2024, setting the stage for a compelling rivalry with the newly launched 5-Door Maruti Jimny and the upcoming 5-Door Force Gurkha. Stay tuned for an exciting chapter in the world of off-road SUVs.
