Mahindra Thar 5-Door Production Begins June 2024

Mahindra is poised to make a significant addition to its lineup with the impending launch of the Thar 5-door variant in the Indian market, expected in the second half of this year. The 5-door Thar has undergone extensive testing across various locations in the country for over a year with sources indicating that it is set to enter series production around June.

Built on the same production line as its 3-door counterpart, which already boasts a substantial order backlog, the Thar 5-door is not anticipated to impact current production schedules. The new variant might bear the name Thar Armada upon its launch, with an ambitious production target of around 4,000 units per month.

Expected Features of the Mahindra Thar 5-door

The Thar 5-door is expected to offer a host of features that surpass its 3-door sibling. Recent spy shots from South India reveal the SUV in its final stages of production showcasing distinctive features such as a unique front bumper and grille, subtly tweaked rear bumpers, and slightly reprofiled tail-lamps. The alloy wheel design appears to be updated, and the Thar 5-door may offer different alloy wheel designs based on the variant.

Mahindra Thar 5-Door  Interior

Inside the cabin, the Thar 5-door is set to showcase the same 10.25-inch touchscreen that debuted in the updated XUV400, possibly featuring Over-the-Air (OTA) updates. To accommodate this larger infotainment screen, there are mild alterations to the dashboard design. This advanced unit boasts an enhanced interface and graphics, expected to feature in the upcoming XUV300 facelift before the Thar 5-door hits the market. While the switchgear appears consistent with the current Thar, the steering wheel resembles the one found in the XUV700. The Thar 5-door, as observed in spy shots, will offer armrests for both front and rear passengers, complete with dedicated grab handles for the second row. Higher variants of the Thar 5-door are also expected to feature a sunroof.

Powertrain Options for the Mahindra Thar 5-door

The Thar 5-door is likely to retain the powertrain options from the 3-door version, featuring the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines. These engines will continue to be paired with the existing 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Off-road enthusiasts can expect the same robust off-road hardware, although suspension tweaks may be implemented based on the chosen powertrain.
