Non-ISI Helmets to be Banned in India

Non-ISI Helmets Banned Throughout India: Road safety in India is a questionable affair. You will find large pools of two-wheelers running everywhere but complying with almost no safety benchmark. As India is more prone to cost effective manufacturing, people everywhere are producing huge amounts of useless products that are nothing more than replicas with zero amount of safety and quality in them.

ISI marked helmets are made keeping many requirements in mind while non-ISI products are shaped like a helmet and made with the poorest available quality of materials. Government is planning to ban these helmets nationwide and ISI Helmet Manufacturing Association is giving them their full support.

They plan to make all conditions effective by end of this year, drafting a full description of what makes into their list of non-banned products. During this talk, they didn’t mention anything regarding the use of SNELL, DOT or ECE certified helmets.

Most probably, they will keep these advanced certifications under the list of non-banned products. Products carrying these certifications are more effective in real world conditions as they are made using even better materials and safety biased technology. Brands supporting these certifications are MT, THH, Bell, Shark, HJC and many more. All these are available in India for around INR 6,000-10,000.

ISIHMA believes that around 75% of two wheeler riders in India use non-ISI helmets for daily use. These products are not just of low quality but can also bring additional harm through their own non-tested parts.

In event of collision, these helmets will break at any moment and would not even resist any of the force from that impact. Also, parts like Visor and screws from non ISI helmets can break or damage its own structure and bring more loss to the rider. Above all, government should avoid banning higher safety spec helmets under this campaign at all cost.
