Ola Electric has announced a massive recall for its S1 range of scooters beginning March 22, 2023. The recall is in effect as Ola recognized the challenges surrounding its front fork. This issue has seen a half dozen breakdowns.
The EV maker is offering the upgrade to the new fork design for free. An official statement was issued on their Twitter handle. The Bengaluru-based Soft bank backed EV maker said, “recently there have been concerns around the community around the safety of the front fork arm which is unfounded.”
“We have upgraded the front fork design to increase durability and strength even further. Thus offering our S1 customers the opportunity to upgrade to the new fork,” the statement continued. Customers can schedule an appointment at their nearest Ola Experience centre to have the upgrade installed.
“All its components, including the front fork arm, are tested under extreme conditions and engineering with a factor of safety much higher than the typical loads encountered on vehicles,” according to Ola Electric.
The manufacturer of the S1 range of electric scooters has been at the top of the Indian EV Market for five months in a row. Selling 1.5 lakh EVs in 2022, maintaining a rate of more than 16,000 units since October 22 and reaching an all-time high of 18,282 units on January 22.
Analysts view the EV Makers’ recall for the front telescopic fork for its S1 range as a positive step. “Ola’s move to correct course if their offerings are found to have issues will build consumer confidence in EV Brands,” said Subhabrata Sengupta, Executive Director, Avalon Consulting.
