Orxa Energies has officially launched the Mantis, an electric motorcycle designed to make waves in the Indian market. Priced at Rs 3,60,000 (ex-showroom Bengaluru, inclusive of the standard 1.3kW charger), the Mantis boasts an impressive claimed range of 221km, securing its position as the second-highest range electric bike in India.
Key Features and Specifications
Motor Powerhouse: The Mantis is propelled by a liquid-cooled motor, delivering a peak power output of 20.5kW and a maximum torque of 93Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.9 seconds and achieves a claimed top speed of 135kmph.
Powerful Battery: Equipped with a non-removable IP67-rated 8.9kWh battery, the Mantis sets a new standard for electric bikes in terms of range. The estimated Indian Driving Conditions (IDC) range stands at an impressive 221km.
Charging Options: Charging the battery from 0-80% using the standard 1.3kW charger takes 5 hours, while the ‘Blitz’ 3.3kW charger reduces the time to 2 hours and 30 minutes. Both chargers require a 15A socket.
Innovative Frame: The Mantis features an all-aluminium aerospace-grade alloy frame and subframe, a segment-first in its class. The suspension setup comprises a 41mm telescopic fork and a monoshock with preload adjustability.
Safety Features: Stopping power is provided by a 320mm front disc with a four-piston radial caliper and a 230mm rear disc with a single-piston floating caliper. The bike comes with single-channel ABS as standard, although dual-channel ABS could have been a beneficial addition.
Design and Build: The Mantis boasts a sleek design with twin projector LED headlights, all-LED lighting, and a 5-inch TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation through an app. The e-bike is available in two color options: Urban Black and Jungle Grey.
User-Friendly Features: Orxa Mantis incorporates ride-by-wire technology, regenerative braking, side stand sensor, and a Linux-based Orxa operating system for seamless connectivity and functionality.
Long-Term Ownership Plans: Orxa has partnered with Nunam, a Bengaluru-based startup, for end-of-life battery buyback services, promising a “40 percent cost advantage.” Additionally, the company has teamed up with Spare It for servicing and Bolt for fast charging solutions, ensuring a comprehensive ownership experience.
Weight Reduction: Orxa focused on fine-tuning the Mantis during the pandemic period, managing to reduce its weight by over 25kg.
