Royal Enfield, the iconic motorcycle manufacturer, has rolled out its latest creation, the Shotgun 650, globally, making its debut in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, USA. Let’s delve into the details of this distinctive addition to the Royal Enfield family.
The Shotgun 650, presented in Los Angeles, stands as the production version of the model, differing from the limited Motoverse Edition. Despite visual similarities, the production variant exhibits unique features, continuing Royal Enfield’s tradition of providing a canvas for modders and custom bike enthusiasts.
Royal Enfield’s Shotgun 650 embraces a celebration of self-expression. In a nod to the mod culture of the West Coast, the bike comes in various custom shades, echoing the artistic spirit of renowned custom bike builders in the region.
The production version closely aligns with the Motoverse Edition, a limited release of only 25 units. Resonating with the original SG650 concept, the Shotgun 650 exudes a distinctive design that captivates riders seeking a blend of classic aesthetics and modern flair. Notably, the showcased bikes in Royal Enfield’s promotional video featured single-seat versions.
The Shotgun 650 offers riders four exciting color choices – Stencil White, Plasma Blue, Green Drill, and Sheetmetal Grey. Adding to its versatility, this motorcycle transforms effortlessly into a single-seater, a double-seater, or a touring bike equipped for luggage, thanks to a pillion seat that pops out with a simple twist of the key.
Under the sleek exterior lies the robust 648cc parallel-twin oil-cooled engine, a consistent performer across the RE 650 lineup. Generating 47 horsepower and 52 Nm of torque, this powerhouse is paired with a responsive 6-speed gearbox. The package includes a slip and assist clutch, catering to both spirited and leisurely riding styles.
The Shotgun 650 boasts an impressive array of features, including USD telescopic front forks, twin rear shock absorbers, a reliable single-disc brake setup with dual-channel ABS, and a wide handlebar for optimal control. Technological enhancements include a semi-digital instrument cluster, Tripper screen, all-LED lighting, and Wingman telematics, ensuring a modern and informed riding experience.
While Royal Enfield has yet to unveil the final specifications and launch date, expectations are high for an early 2024 release. With an estimated starting price around Rs. 3.7 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant, the Shotgun 650 aims to captivate motorcycle enthusiasts seeking a unique blend of retro-futuristic design and Royal Enfield’s timeless DNA.
In the words of Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director & CEO of Eicher Motors Ltd., “The Shotgun 650 is our attempt to bring niche and newer categories of motorcycles to growing enthusiasts of self-expression.” Stay tuned for more updates as the Shotgun 650 gears up for its official launch.
