Tata Motors has officially rolled out the first-ever production variant of the upcoming Tata Altroz in Pune. One of the most anticipated hatchbacks from the brand, Altroz is all set to be launched in 2020 along with the 7-seater Tata Gravitas SUV in addition to the Nexon EV. The recent reports also suggest the launch of Tata Altroz to take place in January 2020.
The Altroz hatchback was originally showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 though, the brand had postponed its impending launch to offer the hatchback a BS6-compliant engine lineup. The first-ever Tata’s hatchback to be based on the ALFA architecture, the Tata Altroz was initially known as the 45X concept.
The brand rolled out the near-production variant of the hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show 2019 while the India-spec production variant features the same design and engine specifications.
Commenting on the roll-out, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors said, “We are thrilled to roll-out yet another class defining product from the plant today. The Altroz is our first product that will be launched on the all-new ALFA platform and we believe that it will raise the bar for vehicles across the premium hatchback segment, come 2020. Since the unveiling of the concept in 2018, the anticipation for Altroz has always been high. We hope that customers will appreciate the new futuristic design with a host of smart features, many of which are one segment above.”
The all-new entry into the hatchback segment for Tata Motors, the Altroz will be available to the customers in three engine variants namely: 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, three-cylinder petrol engine that is good for a maximum power of 85HP, the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine capable of generating 102HP of maximum power and the 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine good for 90HP of maximum power output.
The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the brand is expected to roll out the automatic transmission in the future. Expected to be priced in the range of INR 5 lakh to INR 8 lakh, the Tata Altroz will compete in the market with the likes of Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Ford Figo, and Honda Jazz.
