In order to improve competencies Tata Motors has placed a strong emphasis on enhancing the synergies among its groups. Harrier and Safari are two pertinent examples, both of which have greatly profited from JLR’s D8 platform. And the next Avinya electric SUV is aiming for something comparable.
Avinya to get JLR’s EMA platform
As previously mentioned, Tata has established a brand-new company subsidiary called Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd (TPEM) with a sole concentration on EVs. As a result, the business will be able to withstand the fierce rivalry that the EV market is predicted to see in the next years. A partnership between Jaguar Land Rover Plc (JLR) and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd (TPEM) has been formed to strengthen it. Additionally, the latter is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors. Future Avinya and other EVs built on that platform will be able to be released within the desired time range thanks to the partnership.
JLR and TPEM have an agreement for JLR to license its Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform to TPEM as part of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). To compensate JLR for the services and technology sharing, TPEM will give a royalty fee and it will address the exchange of electrical architecture, battery packs, electric drive units, and manufacturing know-how.
A major factor in accelerating the development of TPEM’s “premium pure electric” vehicle series, “Avinya,” will be JLR’s EMA platform. The two companies will sign an Engineering Services Agreement (ESA) in addition to the Memorandum of Understanding. This will fulfill all of TPEM’s change content requirements for the construction of the first vehicle.
New Tata Avinya JLR’s EMA platform – key benefits
The partnership between JLR and TPEM is a positive move. It will enable a large decrease in the Avinya range of EVs’ development costs. Since JLR is ahead of the competition, it makes sense to transfer the technology and know-how to another Tata company. It will make the EVs in the Avinya series future-proof and globally competitive.
Regarding JLR’s EMA platform, it will be utilized for the company’s upcoming line of mid-sized SUVs that are “pure electric” and intended for foreign markets. These are expected to go into service starting in 2025 and the EMA platform is designed to provide a number of advantages. Significant improvements have been made in terms of internal room, comfort, connectivity, software, over-the-air capabilities, and sophisticated electrical and electronic (E&E) architecture and the EMA platform will make use of a highly integrated propulsion system that includes battery management, a charging system, and cell-to-pack battery technology. It will be able to provide exceptional vehicle efficiency and range.
TPEM will be able to accelerate its entry into the high-end EV market with JLR’s help. JLR’s cutting-edge E&E architecture, which carries all the latest connectivity, comfort, and convenience features, facilitates upgrades to L2+ autonomy. Faster adoption of features such as Software Over the Air (SOTA), Features Over the Air (FOTA), Ultrafast charging systems for high-performance vehicles, and safety (5-star EuroNCAP) would further benefit TPEM.
