Tata Punch EV Launched at Rs. 10.99 Lakhs

Tata has introduced the Punch EV, with prices ranging from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 14.49 lakh. Earlier this month, the automaker initiated bookings for the vehicle, accepting a token amount of Rs 21,000.

The Punch EV is available in two battery options and five variants. Long-range models offer a 7.2kW AC fast charger for an additional Rs 50,000. The Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+ variants on both models can be equipped with a sunroof for an extra Rs 50,000.

Visually, the Tata Punch EV shares similarities with its sibling, the Nexon EV. It is the first Tata electric vehicle to feature a frunk (front trunk). An LED light bar, a split headlight arrangement, and a novel alloy wheel design are noteworthy design features. The Punch EV is built on Tata’s new Gen 2 architecture known as Acti.EV (pronounced ‘active’) which will serve as the foundation for several upcoming Tata EVs and SUVs including the Curvv EV, the new Sierra EV, and the Harrier EV.

Tata Punch EV Battery, Range, Powertrain, and Charging

The Punch EV offers two battery options

  • A 25kWh battery with approximately 315km of MIDC range.
  • a 35 kWh battery with a MIDC range of about 421 km.

A 7.2kW fast charger and a 3.3kW wall box charger are available for charging. The Punch EV supports DC fast charging, capable of taking it from 10-80 percent in 56 minutes using a 50kW fast charger. The Long Range variants generate 122hp and 190Nm sent to the front wheels. In comparison, the regular variants feature an 82hp, 114Nm motor. According to Tata Motors, the long-range variants can accelerate from 0-100kph in under 9.5 seconds, while the standard models take 13.5 seconds. The EV boasts a water-wading capacity of 350mm and a ground clearance of 190mm.

The interior of the Tata Punch EV exudes a more premium feel than its ICE counterpart. It showcases a new dashboard design, twin 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and the digital instrument display, and paddles on the steering wheel for controlling regen levels. Lower variants come equipped with a smaller 7-inch infotainment unit. Ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, a blind spot monitor, a sunroof, a wireless phone charger, an air purifier in the interior, and many other features are included in the long list of features.

Safety features in the Punch EV comprise six airbags, ABS and ESC, three-point seat belts for all seats, ISOFIX mounts, and more.

The Tata Punch EV competes with the MG Comet (Rs 7.98 lakh-9.98 lakh), Citroen eC3 (Rs 11.5 lakh-12.68 lakh), and Tata’s own Tiago EV (Rs 8.69 lakh-12.04 lakh).
