The Tata Punch EV has been in development for quite some time, and as we wait for its arrival, the disguised test mule continues to be spotted on the roads. The Punch EV’s side and rear profiles were plainly visible in the most recent spy images providing us insights about its appearance while also leading us astray. Examine the spy shots for yourself.
Is it The Punch EV?
? Yes, there is a tailpipe below the bumper, but it was most likely added to make us assume it’s the ICE (internal combustion engine) Tata Punch. There are two reasons why we feel this is the electric version. First, the Punch EV has already been discovered with rear wheel disc brakes, which can also be seen in these spy images, and second, the current ICE Punch has its exhaust design integrated into the back bumper, rather than protruding out below it.
New alloy wheels for the Punch EV will be added, and they appear to be modeled after the ones seen on the Tata Nexon EV’s makeover. According to the spy photos that have been released thus far, the Punch EV may gain new air dams and a revised grille. The tiny SUV’s overall style will be comparable to that of its gasoline-powered sibling, but Tata may choose to add blue accents exclusive to EVs everywhere, a la Tigor and Tiago EV.
Cabin & Features
The cabin could possibly get a new decor to reflect its electric nature, but information on that are few. However, we know from a previous spy photo that its dashboard will have a larger touchscreen infotainment system and Tata’s new two-spoke steering wheel with a backlit Tata logo. The rest of the equipment could include a semi-digital driver’s display, automated climate control, up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a rearview camera.
Battery Pack & Range
We had assumed that the Punch EV would receive battery packs comparable to those seen in the Tiago EV and Tiago EV, with a claimed range of 300km to 350km. However, Tata officials recently stated that the Punch EV will have a claimed range of more than 500km, implying that this compact EV will have a larger battery pack and more efficient motors to go the extra distance.
Launch & Price
The Tata Punch EV is scheduled to make its debut before the end of the year, with a starting price of Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a direct competitor to the Citroen eC3 as well as a premium alternative to the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV.
