In exciting news, Toyota has revealed a special version of its well-loved pickup truck, the Toyota Hilux, called the Hilux GR Sport. The goal of this vehicle’s special edition is to be both sporty and tough, with an eye towards international markets. It is unique in that it takes its cues from Toyota’s incredible feats in the renowned off-road competition, the Dakar Rally.
Exterior Design of the Toyota Hilux GR Sport
When you lay your eyes on the Hilux GR Sport, you’ll notice a host of changes to its exterior. The front grille is distinctive with the word “TOYOTA” replacing the regular emblem, giving it a classic touch. Larger air intakes and a sleek black frame surrounding the grille give the front bumper a sportier appearance. Riding on 17-inch alloy wheels equipped with tough tires, it’s got a muscular presence. Additionally, the wing mirrors, side steps, tailgate handle, and flared wheel arches get a glossy black treatment. To emphasize its sporty character, “GR Sport” badges adorn the grille and tailgate.
Interior Features of the Toyota Hilux GR Sport
Stepping inside the Hilux GR Sport, you’ll find a striking carbon fiber-like trim with a vibrant red accent on the dashboard. This sporty theme carries on with GR-branded seats, carpet mats, steering wheels, and more. Aluminum pedals and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters are features of the cabin. The Hilux GR Sport comes with a bunch of cool stuff, like a button to start the engine, bright LED headlights, air conditioning that can be set differently for each side of the car, and a fancy JBL music system.
Engine and Mechanical Upgrades of the Toyota Hilux GR Sport
Under the hood, the GR Sport version is powered by a 2.8-liter diesel engine that generates 204 horsepower and a robust 500 Newton meters of torque. All wheels are powered by this engine using a six-speed automated gearbox. It’s vital to remember that the engine in this vehicle differs from the one in the Japanese model.
In terms of mechanical improvements, the GR Sport is fitted with new shock absorbers that function faster and manage heat better. Sharper steering responsiveness is the outcome of the stronger front springs. Toyota claims that the ride is more comfortable compared to the standard Hilux. The GR Sport maintains the standard Hilux’s capability to carry up to one ton of weight and tow trailers weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.
Standard Toyota Hilux Launch in India
In addition to the Hilux GR Sport, the regular Toyota Hilux is making its debut in India on January 20. It shares its platform with the Fortuner and the Innova Crysta, both of which are manufactured in India. This version is powered by the same 2.8-liter diesel engine as the GR Sport. Deliveries for the Hilux in India are anticipated to commence in March, and it will go head-to-head with the Isuzu V-Cross, another pickup truck. The expected price for the Hilux in India is around Rs 30 lakhs (ex-showroom).
