Toyota dealers are offering significant discounts on the Hilux lifestyle pickup truck, narrowing the price gap between it and its main rival, the Isuzu V-Cross. The Hilux was launched in India in March 2022 with a starting price of Rs 33.99 lakhs. The Hilux was positioned as a premium lifestyle pickup truck in the segment. However, a year later, Toyota slashed the price by Rs 3.59 lakh to Rs 30.40 lakhs.
Dealers are offering significant discounts on the Hilux, with some offering up to Rs 8 lakh off the sticker price. The minimum discount is around Rs 6 lakh, but it can vary depending on the variant and inventory levels. These discounts are being offered by dealers, not by the brand, so they may not be available at all dealerships.
Both the Hilux and the V-Cross are powered by diesel engines. The Hilux gets a 2.8-litre engine that produces a max power of 204 hp and 500 Nm of peak torque. While the V-Cross is powered by a 1.9-litre engine that produces a max output of 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The Hilux also comes with more features and safety equipment than the V-Cross, including seven airbags compared to the V-Cross’ six.
Toyota India has issued a statement denying the reports of discounts on the Hilux. The statement said that the company is “strictly following the price list officially announced by the company” and that the Hilux “continues to enthral the market ever since its launch.” But, the dealers are adamant that the reductions are genuine and are being provided to clear inventory.
