1. The Mirai: Hydrogen-Powered Elegance
Toyota’s presentation kicks off with the Mirai, a Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle running on hydrogen. Already available in select global markets the Mirai serves as Toyota’s technology demonstration in India showcasing the potential of hydrogen as a clean fuel source.
2. Innova Hycross Flex Fuel Prototype: A Marvel of Flexibility
Taking center stage is the made-in-India Innova Hycross now featuring a flex-fuel powertrain. This prototype boasts a 2.0-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine paired with an electric motor similar to its hybrid counterpart. What sets it apart is its capability to run on a blend of ethanol and petrol offering low hydrocarbon emissions and complying with BS6 Phase II standards.
3. Clean and Green Operation
The Innova Hycross flex-fuel prototype operates on an impressive 60% electric mode drawing power solely from its battery pack. The remaining 40% relies on the ethanol-powered engine, resulting in minimal well-to-wheel emissions. Toyota has made key adaptations to various engine components to ensure optimal performance with ethanol demonstrating its commitment to sustainability.
4. Environmentally-Conscious Engineering
To further reduce hydrocarbon emissions, Toyota has integrated a three-way catalyst into the exhaust system. Several modifications have been made to components such as spark plugs, piston ring tops, valves, and valve seats to ensure water resistance and prevent corrosion when using ethanol.
5. Cross Section Display and More
In addition to the flex-fuel prototype, Toyota has a cross-section display of the Innova Hycross hybrid, showcasing common electric powertrain components shared among its models. Another alternative fuel vehicle the Hyryder CNG, is also on exhibit providing insight into Toyota’s commitment to delivering a variety of environmentally friendly solutions. A specially designed Hilux emergency response truck is included in the presentation to further illustrate Toyota’s comprehensive approach to sustainable mobility.
