The new Triumphs are pleasing to the eye. The overall design is new and modern, but the Speed 400 does bear some resemblance to the Speed Twin 900. Due to its identical suspension travel to that of the Speed 400, the Scrambler 400X does not have the conventional scrambler appearance. But the Scrambler 400X does have a few off-road-oriented features, such as a pair of hand guards, a split seat, dual-purpose tires, and a different exhaust.

The Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X are powered by a 398cc liquid-cooled engine that produces 40 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Newton meters of torque at 6,500 rpm. This engine comes with a six-speed transmission system on both bikes.

The Speed 400 has 43mm upside-down forks and a mono-shock with preload adjustment at the rear. The Scrambler 400X has the same forks, but it has a longer travel rear shock. The Speed 400 has 17-inch alloy wheels but the Scrambler 400X has a 19-inch front alloy wheel. The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X sport a 230mm disc at the back and a 300mm disc up front.. Both bikes have dual-channel ABS.

The Speed 400 has a wheelbase of 1,377 mm, while the Scrambler 400X is a little longer at 1,418 mm. The seat heights are also different, with the Speed 400 measuring 798 mm and the Scrambler 400X measuring 841 mm. The Scrambler 400X is also heavier than the Speed 400, weighing in at 186 kg compared to the Speed 400’s 170 kg.

Both bikes come with a range of features, including ride-by-wire, switchable traction control, LED lights throughout, and a part digital-analog instrument cluster. The cluster displays ride data such as fuel level, gear position, and two odometers. There is also a C-type charging port as standard.
