Truck Driver Fined INR 2 lakh for Breaking Traffic Rules

According to the new Motor Vehicle Act, the violators of the traffic rules would have to pay hefty fines to the transport department. The new initiative has created a lot of ruckus over the roads though, at the same time, the citizens are now avoiding breaking the traffic rules which were usually ignored before the implementation of the new laws in the country. The news reports of traffic violators asked to pay heavy fines have been circling the internet.

One such recent incident that has been making rounds is the INR 2 lakh fine issued to a truck driver for breaking multiple traffic rules at the same time. It is the highest fine imposed on a driver ever since the new rules have been implemented in India from September 1, 2019. The truck has a Haryana registration plate and was halted at the GT road near Karnal.

The truck driver didn’t have a valid license while at the same time was overloading products beyond the permissible capacity. In addition to this, the vehicle permit, PUC certificate, registration and other documents were not as per the mandatory rules. Another fine was imposed on the driver for not wearing the seat belt, which is now mandatory in heavy vehicles also. The new motor vehicle act requires a fine of INR 5000 to be paid by the driver for not wearing a seat belt.

Thus summing the fine amount of INR 20,000 for vehicle overloading, INR 36,000 for the additional 18 tonnes carried as well as not carrying the legit required documents adds to a total fine of INR 2,00,500. The truck driver named Ram Kishan paid the entire fine at Rohini court. This kind of hefty challan has broken all the records of previously issues challans in the country under the new motor vehicle act.
