Volkswagen Nivus Revealed; Based on India-bound Taigun SUV

Volkswagen has recently revealed the Nivus coupe-SUV which is based on the India-bound Taigun SUV. The upcoming car is scheduled to be introduced in South America first then followed by other markets.

The partial reveal of the car gives a hint about the model’s design which takes its styling cues from Volkswagen’s latest SUVs that are sold globally. It also includes the India-bound Taigun SUV that was revealed earlier this year. As per the details available, there is no news of the Nivus SUV to mark its entry in India under Volkswagen’s ‘India 2.0’ strategy.

Going by the design statement, the Nivus SUV features a distinctive look with a coupe-like roofline that reduces towards the rear. It would be one of the brand’s latest models to get the new-gen VW logo. The SUV shares its MQB A0 platform with not just the Taigun but also with the current-gen Polo that is sold internationally and the Virtus sedan which is expected to launch in India in the future.

The SUV coupe stands at 4266mm in length which makes it slightly longer than the Taigun. It gets 415-litre of boot space which is quite good despite its SUV-Coupe body style. In terms of wheelbase, Nivus sits shorter with 2566mm compared to the Taigun which has a longer 2651mm wheelbase. The upcoming SUV gets 177mm of ground clearance.

Mechanically, the SUV will run on a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that churns out 128HP of maximum power. It will come paired to only a 6-speed automatic gearbox as the brand wants to position the Nivus above the T-Cross. Moreover, the same engine is used in the T-cross and is expected to be available on the Taigun with similar power output.

The VW Nivus SUV will be available in a limited number of variants and will get a long feature list. It will come equipped with the brand’s latest 8.0-inch ‘Play’ infotainment system. It will also get adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, automatic post-collision braking along with an adaptive autopilot system. The SUV is expected to be fully revealed in the coming days.
