Volkswagen India has launched an exclusive limited edition of its popular compact SUV, the Taigun, known as the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition. This unique variant is priced at Rs. 16.3 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be available in limited quantities across the country and the Trail Edition of the Taigun comes with several visual enhancements that set it apart from the standard model.

A Rugged Take on the Taigun

After the successful launch of the Matte Edition for the Slavia sedan, Volkswagen has now turned its attention to the Taigun SUV. Recently, both the Taigun and Slavia received electrically adjustable front seats just in time for the festive season. Volkswagen now offers the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition a more robust and daring version of this small SUV with a number of exterior and interior upgrades.

Highlights of the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition

Volkswagen initially unveiled the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition in April 2023, and now, in October 2023, it has officially launched and this variant is based on the GT trim, just below the top-spec GT Plus. Its functional roof rails, 17-inch black alloy wheels, and unique decals on the rear doors, C-pillars, and quarter panels are a few of the main characteristics that set it apart.

Additional highlights comprise a “Trailbadge on the tailgate and red-finished brake calipers. Inside, the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition receives various cosmetic updates.

Interior Enhancements of the Trail Edition

The leatherette seats now sport a black finish with red contrasting stitching. The seats feature “Trailembossing on the upholstery and other notable interior elements include metallic pedals borrowed from the GT Plus trim and ambient lighting. The features list remains similar to the GT trim, with the addition of a dashcam featuring an integrated 2-inch display.

The infotainment system is anchored by a 10.2-inch touchscreen which supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additional amenities include a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, wireless charging, automated headlights, and more. However, it lacks some of the advanced features found in the GT Plus, such as a digital instrument cluster, power-adjustable and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, six airbags, and more.

Engine and Transmission Specs

The Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition is equipped with a sole petrol engine, belonging to the higher-spec GT line and it is powered by a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder Evo TSI engine, delivering 148 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Volkswagen offers a 6-speed manual transmission as the exclusive option for the Taigun Trail Edition.

The Taigun SUV is set to compete with models like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, and Citroen C3 Aircross in the Indian market.
