To celebrate the Makar Sankranti festival, Hindu people love taking a dip in the holy water of the rivers of Ganges, Yamuna as well as Godavari; and, it is thought that this dip removes all the poor karma of the past and brings a refreshed life to human beings.

Moreover, to summarize, different states love making different cuisines based on their customs to enjoy this event. For example, in Gujrat, undhiyu is a dish which is made on the day of Makar Sankranti.
At the same time, in West Bengal, Patishapta, Pithe Puli as well as Pyaesh are made as the prime delicacy on this wonderful day. Similarly, in Punjab, Pinni is made and in Tamil Nadu, a traditional food which is called Sakkarai Pongal is made on the time of Pongal (as it falls during the time of Makar Sankranti only).
