Yamaha R3 Makes its Debut at an Attractive Price of Rs 4.65 Lakh

The Yamaha R3 has marked its return to the Indian market with a significant ex-showroom price tag of Rs 4.65 lakh in Delhi. A noteworthy shift in its import status accompanies this release, as the latest R3 is now a completely built-up (CBU) import from Indonesia, departing from its predecessor’s completely knocked-down (CKD) import designation. Coinciding with the R3, Yamaha has also introduced the MT-03 to the Indian audience.

Familiar Design with Modern Enhancements

While the Yamaha R3 has been a staple in international markets for approximately three years, its design retains a semblance of familiarity rather than aligning with Yamaha’s latest design philosophy observed in models like the R1, R6, R7, and R15. One of the most noticeable improvements is the addition of a USD fork which gives the entire design a dash of flair and sportiness.

Proven Powertrain and Lightweight Build

Under the hood, the R3 adheres to a platform reminiscent of its predecessor, maintaining the same chassis. The bike retains the proven 321cc parallel-twin motor, delivering 42hp and 29.5Nm. Weighing a nimble 169kg, the R3 exudes agility and ease of handling, with a low seat height of 780mm catering to the preferences of shorter riders.

Simplicity in Features

In terms of features, the R3 embraces simplicity, opting for dual-channel ABS as its primary riding assist. Notably, it forgoes a TFT display, featuring an LCD instrument console instead.

Pricing Strategy and Market Positioning

The pricing strategy places the Yamaha R3 in a higher bracket compared to its single-cylinder counterpart, the KTM RC 390, priced at Rs 3.18 lakh. A noteworthy competitor is the recently launched Aprilia RS 457, positioned at Rs 4.10 lakh (ex-showroom). In order to appeal to enthusiasts looking for a unique combination of performance and design in the Indian market Yamaha has strategically positioned the R3 to highlight its special features.
