Yamaha YZF-R7 and MT-07 India Launch Details Surface Online

Yamaha Motor India is planning to launch its new middleweight motorcycles, the YZF-R7 and MT-07, in the Indian market by the end of 2023. The company has already started accepting bike bookings, with an initial token amount.

The YZF-R7 is a fully-faired sports bike powered by a 689cc parallel-twin engine. This motor produces a max power of 73 bhp and a peak torque of 67 Nm. The MT-07 is a naked streetfighter that is powered by the same engine. Both bikes come equipped with a host of features, including upside-down forks, mono-shock rear suspension, ABS, and traction control.

Yamaha is targeting the premium middleweight segment with the YZF-R7 and MT-07. The bikes will compete against the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 650, the Honda CBR650R, and the Triumph Street Triple R. The YZF-R7 and MT-07 are expected to be priced at around Rs 10 lakh and Rs 8.50 lakh. The Kawasaki Ninja 650 and Honda CBR 650R will fight with the YZF-R7, while the MT-07 will compete with the Kawasaki Z650 and Triumph Trident 660.

With the launch of the YZF-R7 and MT-07, Yamaha is looking to expand its presence in the premium middleweight segment. The bikes are expected to be well-received by Indian buyers, who are looking for a stylish and performance-oriented motorcycle.

According to Eishin Chihana, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of Businesses, the Japanese manufacturer can only offer a limited quantity of YZF-R7 and MT-07.

“After some years, those (YZF-R3 and MT03) customers will need another step-up bike and we can introduce limited numbers of R7 and MT-07. Between 2023 and 2030, we can prepare this step-up structure for new customers. This will be our key focus where stylish, sporty, and exciting bikes will fuel aspiration,” said Chihana.
