BMW-Motorrad registered 2187 units in the entire 2018, leaving the brand with an impressive number for their first year of mass market introduction. The launch of BMW G310R and G310GS introduced a new section of buyers to the brand. Both the bikes registered 1640 units in 2018 while remaining 547 units were sold from the CBU range of products. The limited number of BMW dealerships and higher than the usual cost of bikes resulted in this sales result. However, the potential of BMW bikes is much higher as the brand serves premium components and class-leading finish to the Indian buyers.
The range of BMW products starts from INR 2.99 lakh and goes up to INR 85 lakh. The most affordable product is G310R while HP4 Race commands the flagship position for the German brand. BMW G310 series is made in India at the TVS facility, resulting in cost reduction for the production by a huge margin. Still, the brand launched both these bikes at such a high price for an undisclosed reason. The flagship TVS Apache RR 310 with the full faired body, same engine as G310R and LED headlights cost just INR 2.23 lakh. This makes G310R overpriced by almost INR 1 lakh.
The same is applicable to G310GS. Still, the numbers registered is good for this huge price tag. If the launch price was lower, the number could have crossed 2000 units for the two locally produced bikes. BMW-Motorrad is yet to launch the 2019 S1000RR in India, leaving them with options that can improve their number by a small margin in 2019. The 1250 series of bikes will also soon replace the 1200cc options from the company lineup. BMW added more value to these bikes by improving the overall output and keeping the weight similar to the 2018 models.
