Hyundai India’s Creta continued to lead the midsize SUV sales standings in June 2022, with 13,790 units sold versus 9,941 units sold during the same period in 2021, representing a healthy YoY volume increase of 38.7 per cent. The five-seater is also expected to receive a significant upgrade in November this year.
The Creta facelift will feature a completely redesigned exterior, as well as new features and technologies, most likely including ADAS. Its sibling, the Kia Seltos, finished second with 8,388 units versus 8,549 units in June 2021, representing a 2% YoY decrease in sales.
The Mahindra XUV700 finished third in domestic sales, with 6,022 units sold. With the semiconductor shortage issues somewhat resolved, the production of many midsize SUVs has increased significantly in recent months. Last month, the Mahindra Scorpio was the fourth most popular midsize SUV.
The Scorpio sold 4,131 units compared to 4,160 units in the same period in 2021, representing a 0.7% decrease year on year. The all-new Scorpio-N was only recently introduced, and bookings and test drives have already begun in a few cities. It is built on a new ladder-frame chassis and features a completely redesigned exterior and interior.
A 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre petrol engine power the Scorpio-N, with manual and automatic transmission options, and the 4WD system is only available in the diesel top-spec trim. The Tata Harrier finished fifth with 3,015 units versus 2,041 units in June 2021, representing a 48% YoY increase.
MG Hector finished sixth in the second half of the table with 2,402 units, ahead of Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Astor. The Kushaq sold 2,983 units, while the Alcazar, Safari, and Astor each sold 1,986, 1,869, and 1,640 units.
