Top 10 Best-Selling Cars in India – August 2022 Sales Report

This is the first time in a long time that the top ten sales chart has produced a different result. Tata is not at the top of any charts and Maruti Suzuki continues to hold the top spot, with an astounding 7 vehicles among the top ten.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR topped the sales chart on a regular basis, with Baleno trailing behind. But Baleno is now India’s best-selling car, with 18,418 units sold in August 2022.

Maruti WagonR sales are declining, which could be attributed to the recently launched Alto K10. WagonR sold 18,398 units in August 2022, representing a 91.90% increase year on year.

New Maruti Suzuki Brezza holds the third and most interesting position. It is currently the best-selling SUV, easily outselling Creta and Nexon, which is surprising given that Brezza was ranked 12th last month.

Tata Nexon has consistently ranked fourth for a long time, being one of India’s best-selling SUVs. It had the highest monthly sales ever last month but it wasn’t enough to keep the title of best SUV. 

Maruti Suzuki Alto was ranked 14th last month and has risen to 5th in just one month. This is most likely Alto K10’s magic, as it is a crowd-pleaser, it sold 14,388 units, an increase of 8.70% year on year and 58.72% month on month.

While SUVs such as the Brezza have outsold the Nexon, the Creta has yet to do so. The Tata Punch, which has a 5-star crash safety rating, registered a sales figure of 12,006 units in August 2022.

Maruti Eeco is currently India’s only ladder-frame van with sliding doors. It sells well in the absence of competitors. While it was sixth last month but it was eighth in August 2022.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire is now ranked ninth, down from fifth last month with only 11,868 units sold in August 2022. Swift’s story is even more tragic because it was third last month and it dropped to the tenth spot in August with 11,275 units on the sales chart.
