Maxi-scooters are a popular motorcycle alternative in many Asian and European markets. This makes sense, as these scooters combine the ease of use of a regular scooter with the power and range of a full-size motorcycle. The Yamaha XMAX has to be one of the most popular models among the maxi-scooters on the market.
The Yamaha XMAX, along with its bigger sibling, the TMAX, has pretty much become synonymous with the term maxi-scooter, available in a variety of displacements across multiple markets. While the TMAX is Yamaha’s long-distance scooter, the XMAX remains the brand’s urban runabout, complete with sporty styling and urban-focused amenities.
Having said that, Yamaha has updated the XMAX 250 in Japan with four new colour options, giving Yamaha’s mid-tier maxi-scooter a much-needed design refresh. The 2023 paint schemes include Glossy White, Matte Dark Green, Glossy Red, and Dark Grey. The grey model has dark blue rims, while the green model has gold-painted alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the white and red versions have stylish black-coated alloy wheels.
Aside from cosmetic changes, the Yamaha maxi-scooter retains its clean and athletic design language, with no changes to its technology or performance features. The XMAX 250 has the same high windscreen, aggressively styled LED headlamps and angular tail light assembly as the XMAX.
The maxi scooter is powered by a 250cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with 23 HP and 24 Nm of torque, providing adequate performance for use around town and in the city. The XMAX comes standard with a telescopic fork and twin preload-adjustable shock absorbers, as well as dual-channel ABS.
The updated colours for the Yamaha XMAX 250 are currently only available in the Japanese market. The 2023 Yamaha XMax 250 is priced at JPY 6,54,500 in Japan (approximately Rs 3.87 lakh). For comparison, the Keeway Vieste 300 has a similar asking price (on-road). Yamaha India currently only offers the Aerox 155 as a maxi-scooter and as of now, the brand has no plans to introduce this premium 250cc moto-scooter in the Indian markets.
