Hero Motocorp Enters into Partnership With Bharat Petroleum For EVs

Hero MotoCorp Limited, the Indian motorcycle and scooter manufacturer announced their new EV standalone sub-brand a couple of months back. In the next quarter of this financial year, they plan to launch their first EV in the Indian market and also aim to export it overseas, namely in Europe and Latin America.

The first e-scooter is officially set to release on July 1, 2022, which is also the birth anniversary of Hero MotoCorp’s founder, the late Brijmohan Lall Munjal. There is also some confirmation regarding the production of the EV, which is to begin in the Chittoor plant, Andhra Pradesh.

The largest two-wheeler maker in India has announced a long-term partnership with Gogoro, a Taiwan-based company that develops a battery swapping platform and provides electric mobility solution based operations. The partnership is expected to extend overseas, where Gogoro has a vast presence.

Head of Hero MotoCorp Global Business, Sanjay Bhan said in an interview that “There is a great appreciation for EV products, especially in the mature economies and we are aiming to be present in a lot of these markets. Undoubtedly EVs provide us access to several new geographies as it opens up new customer and mobility segments.”

Hero plans to achieve 15% of its total sales from the international markets by 2025. Their record highest volume sales from the international market in the last financial term backed this by selling over 3 lakh units across 42 global markets.

The upcoming electric scooter could be based on the precursor presented virtually on the 10th anniversary last year. Hero is aiming to launch multiple EVs across different categories and a partnership with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. was announced recently which will look over the charging infrastructure across the country.
