Hero Electric has officially revealed India’s first electric trike at the Auto Expo 2020. Christened as AE-3, the all-new product has been showcased alongside a new electric scooter and an e-bike that deliver impressive performance numbers. The AE-3 electric trike is powered by a 3.0kW motor that gives out a claimed top speed of 80kmph along with a range of 100km.
The Hero Electric AE-3 trike is equipped with a Lithium-ion 48V/2.4kWh battery that can be fully charged in 5 hours. Before the introduction of AE-3 trike, Hero Electric’s lineup only consisted of affordable, low-performance scooters that do not offer good output figures. Hero Electric has revealed that the AE-3 trike will be registered as a conventional electric two-wheeler.
The Hero Electric AE-3 trike is equipped with a self-standing stability feature, because of the onboard gyroscope. In addition to it, the scooter gets an ‘Auto Balance Park Switch’ that can give the scooter the ability to balance itself while it is parked.
According to the brand, the AE-3 trike also has a reverse assist system which will be quite useful as the scooter weighs nearly 140kg. The braking duties of the scooter are performed by dual disc brakes at the front and a single disc brake at the rear.
In terms of features, the AE-3 is equipped with a fully-digital instrument console that offers mobile connectivity, GPS, real-time tracking and more. The screen will most probably display basic information like the remaining range and charge among the other things.
It is for sure that the AE-3 electric scooter will not be as affordable as other Hero Electric models available in the Indian market. Because of its three-wheel setup and impressive performance numbers, the expected price tag of the scooter lies between INR 1.50-2.00 lakh (ex-showroom).
