Ola Scooter Delivery Update: Only 238 Units Registered in Dec 2021

Ola started delivering its S1 and S1 Pro scooters in the middle of December 2021 and ran into some controversies as well, owing to some issues faced by customers. But on the very last day of 2021, CEO Bhavish Aggarwal made a Tweet regarding the successful delivery of scooters all over India. The chief business officer of the company, Arun Sirdeshmukh, announced in an official statement that a total of 4000 units were shipped to the customers in December only.

Given that Ola Electric is not a member of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), its numbers are not recorded as part of SIAM’s monthly sales reports, so we will have to rely on their statement. However, according to data from the Indian government’s Vahan portal, only 238 Ola scooters were registered in December 2021. This data comprises the registration figures of all states and UTs in India, excluding Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

Even after considering all exceptions, the registration numbers are quite small in comparison to the numbers reported by the company. And it is also worth noting that the scooters cannot be delivered without the registration process, which means that the customers who were promised to receive the scooters at their doors between December 15 and December 31 failed to get the delivery on time.

It is crystal clear that the brand is facing difficulties in delivering and producing scooters at the scheduled time, and many times customers have shown their anger through social media posts as well. Coming to the Ola CEO’s Tweet, he also mentioned that the registration process took longer than expected, but the RTO department still did a great job. Speaking of the next purchase window, Bhavish Aggarwal proclaimed that it would open soon.
