Yamaha MT-15 Beats KTM 125 Duke (Sales Report): Yamaha MT-15 successfully took over the premium lightweight streetfighter segment by beating the popular KTM 125 Duke in India. The Yamaha motorcycle was good for 5203 units in March 2019 while KTM was good for just 3069 units during the same period.

Sales Report (March 2019)

  • Yamaha MT-15: 5203 units
  • KTM 125 Duke: 3069 Units

The difference in sales number is huge at present while a high number of bookings for the MT-15 could have been one of the reasons for its success in the initial days. The motorcycle is priced at INR 1.36 lakh, offering buyers a lot more power than the KTM rival. However, the strongest point for KTM here is the availability of USD forks and wide tires when compared to the MT-15.

The difference in ex-showroom price between both the bikes is INR 11,000 and thus, this may not be a solid reason for buyers to consider once they have planned to spend around INR 1.50 lakh (on-road) on their new motorcycle. KTM and Yamaha went through cost-cutting for their motorcycles as they introduced single-channel ABS for both the models in India.

2019 Honda CB150 Verza can be the next big thing for the Indian arm of the Japanese brand as falling sales number demands new products with not just performance but, mass-market approach. The Unicorn has aged well and the halt of production for the 160cc variant means that Honda has a slot left for a product that balances the equation. CB150 Verza comes with a round headlight, not so similar to the premium LED unit of the Neo Cafe series but, carrying a unique feel with the two suspension-mounted parts.

The all-digital console is placed right above the headlight while front, as well as rear suspension components, totally belong to the commuter segment. The fuel tank is well shaped, carrying extensions that are sporty enough to define the overall character of the bike. Honda Unicorn nameplate is very important for the brand and branding the same motorcycle under the Unicorn lineup can be another possibility for sure. The plain black alloy wheels, all-black exhaust, and long seat will help Verza carve a name for itself in the commuter-specific market of India.

The motorcycle is available in Gloss Black, Matt Black as well as Bold Red shade in Indonesia while the Indian market can get more colours influenced from the CB Hornet series. Honda is using designs with round headlights in the 2019 options, making most of them look similar due to their common design inspiration. The CB150 Verza is slightly different due to its commuter-centric profile and launching the same for under INR 80,000 can be the best bet for Honda India.

The motorcycle is expected to arrive in 2020 as BS6-compliant engine can be used for the first time under the Verza nameplate. Also, the price mentioned here can be for the single-channel ABS model. The engine will use fuel injection and other important additions for a refined character.

Benelli TNT 150i is expected to launch in India next year, featuring a BS6-compliant and decently-powerful engine that could be the 147cc motor seen in most international markets. The motorcycle is currently good for 14 HP and 10 Nm while refining the engine can bring more power and torque from the fuel injected unit. The engine is available with a 5-speed gearbox. Benelli is known to tune their engines by taking into consideration the market requirements and India is currently having a power bracket of 13-19 HP for the 150cc bikes.

Benelli TNT 150i Side View

The design of Benelli TNT 150i is unique in itself, offering MT-15 rivalling stance and sharp edges that are unmistakably exclusive to the Benelli brand. The fuel tank is well sculpted while the front USD forks are finished in the purest available metallic finish. The alloy wheels are sporty and so are the petal disc brakes of the motorcycle. The black monoshock and impressive split-seat further raise the sporty character for the TNT 150i. The frame is painted red on all the three available shades.

The claimed mileage for the engine is 50 kmpl while holding 13.5-litres of fuel makes the same good for lesser refills than usual. The front 100mm while rear 130mm tyre matches to the majority of rivals falling in this segment. The price for locally-produced Benelli TNT 150i is expected to fall around INR 1 lakh, that too when the equipment list is watered-down to take advantage of cost-cutting. After the launch in India, the TNT 150i would be competing with TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Suzuki Gixxer, Yamaha FZS, Honda CB Hornet 160R, and the Bajaj Pulsar NS160.

2019 Yamaha FZ Series Price List: Yamaha FZ series is India’s most popular entry-level street fighter series from last one decade. It was first launched with a 153cc, air-cooled and carburettor-fed engine. With time, Yamaha realized that fans have started looking for fuel-efficient options under the same popular design theme. They introduced a new 149cc, single cylinder fuel injected motor that became popular under the name FZ V2. The same engine is now operational under the V3 moniker, producing 13.2 HP and 12.8 Nm of overall output. The FZ V3 and the FZS V3 comes with single channel ABS as standard.

Yamaha FZ lost some power with the fuel injection upgrade but simultaneously, an overall decrease in weight from its body weight compensated for the loss. The present generation model delivers 45 kmpl of efficiency in everyday riding conditions. Yamaha soon understood the need for more power and introduced the 249cc, oil cooled and fuel injected FZ25 for INR 1.34 Lakh (ex-showroom), including the dual channel ABS feature. The overall output is healthy at 20.9 HP. Here is the latest price list of FZ series in India.

Yamaha R15 V3 vs Yamaha MT-15 (Drag Race Video): The drag race between Yamaha MT-15 and R15 V3 has brought impressive results for those who were confused between the selection process. The video clears that those who need a burst of acceleration can go for the streetfighter while fans travelling highway distances above 100 kph can go for the R15 V3. The aerodynamics instantly kick-in when the rider crosses 100 kph on the speedometer, leaving MT-15 struggling to achieve the top speed at the same pace as the R15 V3.

The rider neatly gets behind the windscreen while the one on the MT-15 will need to add a visor to keep the winds away, that too not as effective as the sharp fairing of the R15 V3. The top speed for both the bikes will stay around 140 kph on the speedometer, with body weight playing an important role here. The MT-15 comes for INR 1.36 lakh while those considering Yamaha R15 will need to spend INR 1.40 lakh. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom India.
