India-Spec KTM 125 Duke to be Based on 200 Duke; Official Launch Soon

KTM 125 Duke is almost ready for an official Indian entry, with buyers still confused for the features and design that will come along for 2019. The most affordable KTM bike for India, 125 Duke is said to support the 2016 Duke design lines with black frame and alloy wheels. Also, the maximum number of parts will stay similar to the current generation Duke 200. A recent report claims that the brand is preparing to offer single-channel ABS on their youngest model. The statement seems impractical at this moment as the selection of the 125cc engine segment was done to avoid the additional ABS cost.

As the government has ordered manufacturers to fit CBS in products under 125cc and ABS in those above this limit, the move of bringing KTM 125 Duke was expected as an excuse to start the range at an expected INR 1.25 lakh price tag. Adding ABS to the bike will raise the overall price by INR 12,000 for single-channel and INR 14,000 for the dual-channel unit. Even if they are willing to keep the Duke series loaded with safety, why sacrifice the rear ABS feature for an increase of INR 2,000 in total pricing? The question is still unanswered as the above statement is sourced from a KTM dealer.

If KTM enters the single-channel league, the same unit is expected to move into RC 200 and 250 Duke in the next four months. Most fans expect KTM to offer a dual-channel unit on all the bikes, even if they plan to skip ABS from the youngest version due to an attractive starting price. The use of dual-channel ABS on KTM 200 Duke will take the price to INR 1.66 lakh while RC 200 will then retail for INR 1.93 lakh. The quarter-liter Duke 250 may get a price tag of INR 1.95 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom (expected).

Why there is no launch plans for KTM 125 Duke in India?
2022-12-29 06:10:26 AM
There are no plans for any 125 cc performance motorcycle including 125 Duke in India. This is because the bikes available here form various manufacturers are already localized in their 150 cc and 200 cc versions. Bringing the 125 cc bikes won't makes sense as they use same premium parts as the bigger ones and won't justify with a price tag that is nearly matching the Indian made bikes with around 300 cc of engine capacity. These are actually good for market with licensing restrictions as 125 cc bikes won't need a license to drive but here in India, the same license helps you drive a 100 cc commuter and 2300 cc cruiser at the same time. Is KTM 125 Duke is available for Tamil Nadu?

KTM Duke is currently available in 200 and 390 variants only. The 125 cc Duke is available in selected markets where license restricts certain age group of people from driving big engine bikes. The KTM 200 Duke is the smallest KTM motorcycle with a high performance 199.5 cc engine producing 24.6 BHP and 19.2 Nm of torque. It is a lightweight street machine with superb acceleration. The 200 Duke comes with a price tag of INR 1,43,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
What is the on-road price of KTM 125 Duke?
2022-12-29 06:04:53 AM
The on-road price of the KTM Duke 125 is not available simply because KTM never plans to launch this motorcycle in India. The reasons behind this are: (i) There won’t be enough buyers. Not many people will be interested in buying a KTM DUKE 125 when a Pulsar 220F is available at a same or a lesser price. (ii) Globally, the 125cc bikes are learner motorcycles. You don’t need a licence to ride them. However, in India you need a licence to even ride a 100cc motorcycle. (iii) The mileage of KTM DUKE 125 is even lower than the Duke 200. Indian buyers are very conscious about the mileage. Not many people would be interested in buying a 125cc bike that just returns 25-27 KMPL.
What is the exact launch date for KTM 125 Duke and RC 125 in India?
2022-12-29 06:02:51 AM
Unfortunately, KTM has no plans to launch the Duke 125 and the RC 125 in India. Possible reasons behind this could be: 1. Not enough customers for either motorcycle because they'll be priced quite high compared to other 125cc motorcycles. Rajiv Bajaj has said "Bring me one customer who'll buy the D125 and I'll launch it in India right away!" 2. Mileage is a big concern for Indian customers. Both the 125 cc bikes by KTM have reported a mileage of just 25-27 KMPL. This is because KTM engines are tuned for performance, and neglect other factors such as fuel efficiency. 3. The 125cc offerings by KTM are available in the European market only because the learner limit is 125cc and/or 15 Hp.

The KTM Duke 125 is not available in India as KTM has launched only the 200 and 390 series of Duke in India. It is said to return a mileage of 30 kmpl and the engine is capable of taking the little Duke to 120 kmph. It is water cooled and we expect it to be around INR 90,000 if ever launched.
