The 220cc TVS Zeppelin was unveiled as a concept model at the 2018 Auto Expo. The showstopper falls in the cruiser category of motorcycles, targeting buyers who are in the need of a sports cruiser. After several delays, the earlier reports suggested the brand to launch the Zeppelin in India this year though there has been no information received on the same as of yet. Here are 5 must-know facts about the much-awaited TVS Zeppelin cruiser motorcycle.

5 Must-Know Facts About 220cc TVS Zeppelin

1) First TVS Cruiser Motorcycle – TVS is known for the production of commuter bikes and sportbikes, leaving the cruiser segment empty from the past three decades. The Zeppelin 220 is a typical cruiser motorcycle as it features low seat height, forward-biased foot-pegs, and smaller-than-usual rim size. The cruiser rivals none other than the Bajaj Avenger 220 and Suzuki Intruder 150 while the Jawa Classic 300 and Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 are other indirect rivals for the upcoming motorcycle.

2) New Age Design – The extended fuel tank, sharp tail section, and the raised pillion seat add modern lines to the package. The engine bay is neat, perfectly-filled and highlighted with silver inserts. TVS showcased the concept version of the bike with a belt-drive system, making it the first motorcycle of its segment to carry the feature. The headlight is heavily inspired by a typical modern street machine.

3) Key Components & Engine Details – The 220cc TVS Zeppelin is equipped with premium 41mm USD front forks, full-LED headlight, belt-drive, and grippy Pirelli Sport Demon tyres. The addition of a sporty exhaust system finished in black shade, and the independent tyre hugger makes Zeppelin an eye-candy for the bike lovers though, the production model is expected to skip some of the premium parts to keep the costs under check.

The Zeppelin is expected to be equipped with a BS6-compliant, 220cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine. The same can either be derived from Apache RTR 200’s engine or made from scratch for torque-biased performance.  Mechanically, the concept model is good for 20 HP @ 8500 rpm and 18.5 Nm @ 7000 rpm. The engine is mated a 5-speed gearbox. The unique electric-boost system of Zeppelin can help riders achieve more mileage per refill though, the system is not yet confirmed for the production version of the motorcycle.

4) Instrument Console – The console on the Zeppelin is semi-digital, divided through physical breaks for easy differentiation and clean layout. The console has an analogue tachometer, a digital speedometer, an odometer and a fuel gauge. In comparison, the Bajaj Avenger is equipped with an all-digital console while most of the Royal Enfield motorcycles are equipped with an analogue console. As per one of the recent reports, it is being rumoured that the production-spec model of the Zeppelin with come featured with an all-digital instrument console in addition to getting smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth.

5) Launch Date & Expected Price – The official launch of the 220cc TVS Zeppelin is expected to take place by the end of this year or in early 2021. As far as the pricing is concerned, TVS is expected to launch the cruiser with an approximate ex-showroom price tag of around INR 1.40-1.50 lakh in India.

TVS Zeppelin 220 is one of the most anticipated motorcycles from the brand that was initially unveiled as a concept at the Auto Expo back in February 2018. The showstopper falls in the cruiser category of motorcycles, targeting buyers who are in the need of a sports cruiser. After several delays, the earlier reports suggested the brand to launch the TVS Zeppelin cruiser bike in India this year though there has been no information received on the same as of yet.

We expected TVS Motor to unveil the production version of the Zeppelin 220 concept at the Auto Expo 2020 which was held in February this year, but it didn’t happen as TVS decided to skip the auto show. It is now being rumoured that the next TVS-BMW bike would be based on the Zeppelin and the brand would launch the same by the end of this year. It may or may not carry the Zeppelin branding, but the end product would most likely be a 200cc-segment premium cruiser motorcycle.

Mechanically, the TVS Zeppelin concept was showcased with an RTR 200-inspired 220cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that was good for a maximum power of 20 HP at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 18.5 Nm at 7000 rpm. The engine on the concept bike was mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The production model of the TVS Zeppelin-based cruiser motorcycle will feature a BS6-compliant engine while offering powerful performance and getting a price tag of around INR 1.40 lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of looks, the upcoming TVS cruiser bike will feature a bulkier fuel tank design which will be further accompanied by clip-on handlebars while all other body panels are expected to be equipped with premium plastic cladding. The brand showcased the Zeppelin cruiser motorcycle concept with Upside Down (USD) front forks and an HD camera back at the Auto Expo 2018 though the production variant is expected to skip on the rather premium bits to keep the costs under check. The concept bike was showcased with a digital-analogue console but the production model is expected to come equipped with an all-digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity like the current-gen TVS Apache RTR 200.

The glorified components will turn decent when the TVS Zeppelin cruiser bike will enter the final production stage. Till date, as not even a single test mule has been spotted testing on the Indian roads, it seems like the bike will launch by the end of 2020 or in early 2021. The production version of the cruiser motorcycle is expected to get front and rear disc brakes along with dual-channel ABS for added safety.

Some reports even suggest that TVS Motor is working on two variants of the Zeppelin 220. One version is expected to carry a normal petrol engine while the second version is expected to feature a petrol-hybrid setup. As all the rival products are conventional petrol-powered cruisers, the upcoming bikes based on Zeppelin are expected to carry an integrated starter generator-equipped engine for saving fuel while idling.

The concept model of Zeppelin was showcased with a belt-drive mechanism though, it may not be on offer on the production-spec model as it will raise the cost of Zeppelin-based products by a huge margin. If and when launched, the cruiser will rival the Bajaj Avenger 220 and Suzuki Intruder 150 while the Jawa Standard 300 and Royal Enfield Classic 350 are other indirect rivals for the upcoming cruiser motorcycle.

Bajaj Avenger Street 220 Discontinued in India: Since Bajaj Auto has recently revamped its portfolio in the light of the mandatory BS6 switch, the ‘Discover’ and ‘V’ monikers under its wing have been officially removed from the website. In addition to this, the brand has also discontinued the Bajaj Avenger 220 Street under the Avenger portfolio which only features the Avenger Street 160 and Cruise 220 with BS6-compliant engines as of now.

The Avenger 220 Street has not been updated with the BS6-compliant engine like other siblings in its segment. The brand has decided to simplify the equation with only a single cruise and street variant under its lineup while discontinuing the 220 Street due to low sales figures. The brand had halted the supply of the Avenger 220 Street to the dealerships in the last month while the only models that are expected to be available with the dealerships would be the unsold BS4 inventory.

The reason behind the lesser sales of the Avenger 220 Street is the availability of its 160cc variant that is far more affordable and features almost identical design language.

It’s Official: Bajaj Avenger Street 220 Discontinued in India

To jog your memory, powering Avenger 220 Street is a BS4-compliant 220cc single-cylinder engine that is capable of generating maximum power of 19.03 HP and a peak torque of 17.5 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The powerful motorcycle under the brand features telescopic forks at the front while the rear has been mated to twin shock absorbers. The braking duties are handled by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake setup at the rear mated to single-channel ABS as standard. The motorcycle can register a top speed of around 120 kmph while the fuel efficiency stands at 35-40 kmpl.

The Bajaj Avenger series which now features the Avenger Street 160 and Cruise 220 are currently available in the markets with a BS6-compliant engine at a price tag of INR 94,893 and INR 1.17 lakh respectively.

Avenger Premium Cruiser Imagined by SRK Designs: Bajaj Avenger 220 is the sportiest cruiser that one can buy in India under INR 1.50 lakh (on-road). Even though Bajaj has updated the cruiser models for 2020, this rendered image of Avenger turned into a premium cruiser is worth a mention. The front end of this typical Avenger by SRK Designs features a thin fender while the headlight features a Bobber-inspired profile with emphasis on unique looks and head-turning road presence.

The fuel tank of the motorcycle looks more or less similar to the Bajaj Avenger’s stock model while the single-seat seems to be inspired by the Harley-Davidson Street Bob. The rear fender has also been chopped to achieve a premium look for the cruiser.

The Avenger concept by SRK Designs is equipped with a massive exhaust while the rear suspension features gas canisters and impressive sporty springs. The panels under the seat bring the perfect connection between the fuel tank and the rear fender of the motorcycle.

The taillight on the rendered motorcycle has been placed on the top of its rear fender. The engine bay stays standard here while no difference can be spotted on the fuel tank-mounted console of the Avenger.

The rear disc brake must have been sourced from a premium motorcycle as the size seems to be on the larger side. SRK Designs has further equipped the Avenger Premium with wide tyres to match with the overall profile of the cruiser motorcycle.

Bajaj Avenger with Assault Barrel Exhaust System: Motorcycles and excess modifications aren’t something new that we haven’t heard of. While some modifications entirely offer you a new machine unrecognised on every level, there are still some extraordinary works that have a way of accentuating your motorcycle’s appeal and keeping the original profile of the motorcycle intact. One such modification video we came across is of the Bajaj Avenger that has been uploaded by a Youtube channel VampVideo.

At a closer look of this heavily-modified motorcycle, one can recognise it to be a Bajaj Avenger though, the extraordinary work done is a treat for the eyes. The yellow and green dual-tone paint job on the modified Avenger sets it apart from the crowd while the reshaped retro fuel tank adds on to its distinguished persona. The motorcycle has been equipped with aftermarket headlight as well as blinkers.

The customized brown seat saddle and the revamped handlebar multiplies its superior looks while the aftermarket alloy wheels complete its overall exclusive design. The customizer has also offered an all-black treatment to the suspension system as well as the engine. The addition of a custom Assault Barrel exhaust system, a wide rear tyre, and the offset placement of the number plate sets the motorcycle apart from its standard version.

Apart from the cosmetic changes, there aren’t any mechanical changes offered to this modified Bajaj Avenger. It continues to be powered by a 220cc, single-cylinder, DTS-i, oil-cooled engine that is capable of generating maximum power of 19.03HP @ 8,400 rpm and a peak torque of 17.5Nm @ 7,000 pm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The suspension duties on the motorcycle are handled by telescopic forks at the front while the rear has been equipped with twin shock absorbers. The Bajaj Avenger features a single disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. The brand has equipped the current version of the motorcycle with a single-channel ABS unit for additional safety on the roads. At present, the BS6-compliant stock model of the Avenger 220 is available in India for INR 1.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 220F Launched in India: The much-awaited BS6-compliant model of the Bajaj Pulsar 220F has been recently launched by the brand in the Indian markets at a price tag of INR 1.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The updated motorcycle that is now available across the dealerships carries a premium of around INR 8,960 over its BS4 price tag.

Coming to the design language, the brand has retained all the cosmetic bits and pieces of the BS4 variant of the motorcycle. The semi-faired motorcycle that now features a BS6-compliant engine continues to feature an LED projector headlamp at the front. In addition to this, the graphics on the body panels of the updated motorcycle variant also remains the same when compared to its BS4 counterpart.

Coming to the mechanical bits, the BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 220F features a 220cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine that is now BS6-compliant and capable of offering maximum power of 20.1HP and a peak torque of 18.55Nm. The updated engine variant has resulted in a power drop by 0.5HP when compared to the 20.6HP offered by the BS4 version though the torque figure remains the same. The engine continues to be mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Since the motorcycle is now equipped with a fuel-injected engine and an additional catalytic converter to comply with the BS6 emission norms, the kerb weight of the updated motorcycle has increased by a total of 5kgs. The suspension duties are handled by the same telescopic forks at the front and dual gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear.

The brand has revised the front disc brake setup on the updated motorcycle which now measures 280mm and is larger when compared to the 260mm front disc offered on the BS4 version. The 230mm rear disc brake remains the same while the single-channel ABS also remains standard.

The customers can avail the BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 220F in two dual-tone colour schemes namely black/blue and black/red. The bookings of the motorcycle have already commenced with the dealerships while the deliveries will commence once the nationwide lockdown is lifted.

The 2020 BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 220F has started reaching dealerships ahead of the official launch in the coming days. In addition to that, the price of the motorcycle has also been revealed. It will launch with a price tag of INR 1.16 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). The BS6-compliant model of the Pulsar 220F is priced approximately INR 9,000 higher than the BS4 model, which is available with a price tag of INR 1.07 lakh, till the stock lasts.

The BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 220F is equipped with a fuel-injection system, an ECU, and a catalytic converter to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms that will be implemented in the country on April 1 this year.  In terms of design, there are no changes as the BS6 model looks exactly similar to the current-gen BS4 model of the Pulsar 220F. The bike features the same semi-faired design with projector headlights, a split-seat setup and a tall front visor.

As of now, we don’t have the details regarding the power and torque values of the updated 220cc fuel-injected BS6 model though we can expect the motorcycle to get a slight drop in the values like most of the recently launched BS6 bikes. For reference, the BS4-compliant model of the Bajaj Pulsar 220F is powered by a 220cc, single-cylinder carburetted, oil-cooled engine that generates a maximum power of 20.93HP @ 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 18.55Nm @ 7000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The suspension duties on the BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 220F continues to be handled by telescopic forks with anti-friction bush at the front and 5-way adjustable Nitrox shock absorbers at the rear. For braking performance, the bike remains equipped with a 260mm single disc at the front and a 230mm single disc at the rear, which are further mated to a single-channel ABS unit as standard.

TVS Zeppelin is one of the most anticipated motorcycles from the brand that was initially unveiled as a concept at the Auto Expo 2018. After several delays, the earlier reports suggested the brand to launch the Zeppelin 220 cruiser motorcycle in the year 2020 though there has been no information received on the same.

TVS Motor had officially backed out of the Auto Expo 2020 where the brand usually reveals some of its exciting concepts as well as the anticipated production variants. As per the current status, the launch of the Zeppelin now seems to be rather uncertain.

Some recent reports suggest that the brand might launch the motorcycle around mid-2020 though there has been no official confirmation as of yet. It is also being rumoured that TVS may also shelve the plans of launching the cruiser in the Indian market.

Powering the TVS Zeppelin concept is an RTR 200-inspired 220cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that is good for a maximum power of 20HP @ 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 18.5Nm @ 7000 rpm. The engine is mated a 5-speed gearbox.

If launched in the production state, the TVS Zeppelin is expected to feature a BS6-compliant engine while offering powerful performance and getting a price tag of around INR 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of looks, the TVS Zeppelin cruiser features a bulkier fuel tank design which is further accompanied by the clip-on handlebars while all other body panels have been equipped with premium plastic cladding.

The brand showcased the Zeppelin 220 cruiser motorcycle with Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) with assist motor and an HD camera back in 2018 though the production variant (if launched) is expected to skip on the rather premium bits to keep the costs under check.

As we reported earlier, Bajaj is all set to launch the BS6-compliant models of the Pulsar series in the Indian market in the coming weeks. Ahead of the launch, the BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 220F has been spotted testing for the first time. Bajaj Auto has equipped the 220cc motorcycle with fuel injection to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms that will be implemented in the country on April 1, 2020.

The approximate top speed of the motorcycle stands at 134kmph while the acceleration time may vary highly with the wind direction and the weight of the rider.

The suspension duties of the BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 220F will continue to be handled by telescopic forks with anti-friction bush at the front and 5-way adjustable Nitrox shock absorbers at the rear. For braking performance, the bike will remain equipped with a 260mm single disc at the front and a 230mm single disc at the rear, which will be further mated to a single-channel ABS unit as standard.

At present, the BS4 model of the 220F is available in the market with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 1.08 lakhs while the BS6-compliant model is expected to get a price hike of around INR 8,000 to INR 10,000.
