The 250cc KTM RC sportbike is still a dream for many aspiring riders of India. The motorcycle belongs to the most popular RC SuperSport series of KTM and thus, performance runs heavily in each of its body parts. Powered by the same engine as the 250 Duke, RC can successfully bridge the gap between RC 200 and the RC 390. Here are 5 reasons why KTM should launch the New RC 250 in India.

5 Reasons Why 250cc KTM RC Should be Launched in India

1) Excellence in Performance: KTM RC250 is powered by a 248.8cc, single-cylinder engine producing 30HP @ 9000 rpm and 24Nm @ 7500 rpm. This makes it the most powerful quarter-litre sports bike for India. Honda CBR250R and Yamaha Fazer 25 are both touring focused, making RC250 the dream option for those who wish for a quarter-litre track racer. KTM RC 250 will also be equipped with 2-channel ABS as standard like the rest of the motorcycles of its class. Suzuki recently also entered the 250cc full-faired segment with the launch of the Gixxer SF 250 at INR 1.71 lakh (ex-showroom).

2) Premium Orange Finish: RC 250 was recently updated in both Indonesia and Malaysia. The bike now comes with the same side exhaust and Orange shade as RC 125 for the European market. This combination of White and Orange is still not available on any variant in India. The same shade can help KTM sell more units for RC series.

3) Locally Manufactured: KTM manufactures the RC 125, RC 200, RC 250 and RC 390 in India. The same is true for all four Duke models. The brand recently also launched the BS6-compliant 125cc RC motorcycle in India and the RC 250 would be most likely the next big thing that could launch in India.

4) Perfect Expected Price Point: As KTM 200 Duke and 250 Duke have a large number of differences, they still have a price difference of approx INR 28,000. When it comes to RC 200 and the RC 250, the only major difference is a bigger engine. KTM can launch the RC 250 for around INR 2.20 lakh in India. This will even maintain a good difference with the RC 390 due to a large number of additions in the flagship racer.

5) Premium Components: KTM RC 250 is equipped with front USD forks, race-spec chassis, side exhaust and same fully-digital console as RC 390. The track-focused frame on the motorcycle offers a very confident riding position and clip-on handlebars for sharp handling. The RC 250 is expected to share almost every part with the RC 200 along with the 2-channel ABS unit.

According to recent reports, Piaggio is working on new 250cc-300cc Aprilia sports bikes for the Indian market. The Italian brand previously planned on experimenting with the 150cc motorcycle segment though the increasing market share and the trend for the quarter-litre motorcycles have made them change paths. The brand showcased the Aprilia RS 150 and the Tuono 150 at the 2018 Auto Expo though the motorcycles never made it to the showrooms. The brand now plans on launching higher-displacement sports bikes in India.

Commenting on the plans to launch higher-displacement motorcycles, Diego Graffi, MD Piaggio stated – “Definitely, we are looking with a lot of interest at the motorcycle segment in India. It is natural, having a brand like Aprilia, which is well known across the world for winning in racing competitions. We are now looking more at this range (250cc-300cc). We need some time to introduce the products, but it is in our plans.”

With overall sales near 7,73,855 units in the 2019 fiscal year, the 250cc-350cc motorcycle segment has been doing good for the brands where Royal Enfield certainly takes over 99% of the market share with 7,64,012 units sold in the same period. Piaggio has stated its plans on launching new Aprilia products in the same segment, though the production might take some time.

In addition to this, Piaggio is all set to launch the India-specific Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-scooter in the markets by the end of this year. The brand further aims at reaching 1 lakh sales figure in the current year.

The Vespa and the Aprilia range of scooters have recently been updated by the brand with BS6-compliant engines. In addition to that, the brand has also launched the Aprilia SR 160 that replaces the SR 150 in the Indian markets. The bookings for the updated scooter portfolio from the brand has begun at the selected dealerships.

250cc Yamaha Adventure Motorcycle in the Making: According to recent reports, Yamaha is planning to enter the 250cc adventure bike segment with an FZ25-based motorcycle. Since all the major brands are profiting from the quarter-litre motorcycle segment, Yamaha launching a new 250cc motorcycle will be one of the wisest steps ahead in the right direction.

At present, the 250cc motorcycle segment is conquered by brands like KTM, Bajaj, Husqvarna, Hero MotoCorp as well as Suzuki. Launching an adventure motorcycle based on the most sought-after Yamaha FZ25 will be a good idea since the brand plans on experimenting in the premium motorcycle segment only and the FZ25-inspired adventure bike will feature all the premium components from its streetfighter sibling.

Another reason for launching an FZ25-based adventure motorcycle is that the underlying platform for the FZ25 is relatively new from the brand and would be perfect for offering optimum off-roading performance. The engine equipped on the FZ25 is ready to be taken onto the adventure motorcycle considering the fact that it offers optimum power and torque figures as well as requires simpler construction.

Apart from these, as the FZ25 platform is inexpensive to be transformed into an adventure bike, one can expect the upcoming 250cc Yamaha adventure motorcycle to be priced competitively when compared to its closest competitor KTM 250 Adventure. According to the details available, FZ25 is the best candidate for the adventure bike since it weighs just 152kgs while gets a seat height less than 800mm.

If the brand plans on converting the existing chassis of the FZ25 into an adventure motorcycle, all they have to do is reposition the handlebar higher and offer longer-travel suspension. One can expect Yamaha to officially confirm the FZ25-based adventure motorcycle in the coming months if the sales numbers for its competitors like KTM turn out to be impressive.

Bajaj Auto is flourishing in the quarter-litre segment with the introduction of Husqvarna 250 series as well as the recently introduced Dominar 250. Since all the three motorcycles under the brand have been launched with a BS6-compliant engine, the brand has also updated the KTM Duke 250 with the same so as to make the quarter-litre segment equally exciting for the customers. Though the overall sales continue to benefit the brand altogether, the launch of new 250cc motorcycles has divided the sales among all of them.

The details of the upcoming 2020 Yamaha FZS 25 touring-oriented motorcycle has been revealed ahead of its official launch. The all-new addition to the quarter-litre segment portfolio under the brand will be positioned above the 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 that is also expected to launch in the coming days.

The upcoming quarter-litre motorcycles from the brand which includes the 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 have been listed by the brand on its official website while the features and technical specifications have also been revealed.

Powering the Yamaha FZ 250 series is the same 249cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, air+oil cooled engine that is now BS6-compliant and capable of generating maximum power of 20.8 HP @ 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 20.1 Nm @ 6,000 rpm. The engine remains mated to a 5-speed gearbox. In comparison to the BS4 model, the updated version generates 0.1 HP less power and 0.1 Nm more torque.

The kerb weight of the FZS 25 stands at 154kg which makes it 1kg heavier than the standard FZ 25 variant while the brand has equipped the former with touring-oriented features like knuckle guards, large wind visor at the front, contrast alloy wheels setup as well as a rather funky colour palette. In addition to that, the 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 features a negative LCD display for the instrument console, an underbelly cowl and a side-stand engine cut-off switch.

The FZS 25 will be available to the customers in three colour schemes namely Metallic White, Dark Blue, and Dark Green. The white colour variant of the motorcycle features black alloy wheels setup while the other two have been imparted with golden alloy wheels.

Coming to the hardware, both the Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 have been equipped with disc brakes at either side mated to a dual-channel ABS unit as standard. The suspension setup includes telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock absorber at the rear.

The brand has not yet revealed the price tags of the upcoming BS6-compliant 250cc motorcycles though one can expect the FZ 25 standard variant to be priced around INR 1.38-1.40 lakh while the 2020 Yamaha FZS 25 is expected to get a premium of around INR 3,000 over the price tag of the standard variant. The official launch details are expected to surface sometime soon after the nationwide lockdown is lifted.

An all-new spy shot of the upcoming adventure motorcycle namely Aprilia Terra 250 has recently leaked online. The spy shot of the motorcycle has been taken inside a factory thus confirming its authenticity. The upcoming adventure bike once launched in India will compete in the market with the likes of KTM 250 Adventure.

It is now being rumoured that the brand may enter the quarter-litre segment with the launch of an adventure motorcycle which is expected to play well in the Indian markets considering tons of adventure enthusiasts in the country. The Aprilia Terra 125 and Terra 150 adventure bikes that were launched in the Chinese markets were unable to impress the audience due to their hefty price tags though the 250cc adventure motorcycle is expected to compensate for the loss in sales.

As the motorcycle seen in the spy shot seems to be parked at a factory, one can easily imagine it to be the final production variant that is expected to grace the Indian markets in the coming months. Since there is not much information available on the Aprilia Terra 250 as of yet, the revealed spy shots ensure that the production bike will feature premium components.

Aprilia Terra 250 Spotted

The adventure motorcycle has been shod with dual-purpose tyres with spoke wheels. The brand has offered the motorcycle with high ground clearance while one can easily recognise the suspension components equipped on the production variant. The Aprilia Terra 250 features telescopic forks at the front with long wheel travel while the rear end has been equipped with a monoshock unit.

The braking department is handled by disc brakes at either side while the fuel tank panels feature the “Terra Adventure” branding. The motorcycle further makes way for a relaxed riding position with the single-piece tubular-type handlebar unit. The brand has equipped the motorcycle with a side-mounted exhaust system while the seat height seems to be on the higher side like most of the adventure bikes available in the market.

Powering the Aprilia Terra 250 will be the 250cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that powers the Aprilia GPR 250. The engine is capable of churning out a maximum power of 26.5HP @ 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 22Nm @ 7,500 rpm. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed transmission. If launched in India, the Terra 250 is expected to compete in the markets against the likes of KTM 250 Adventure though there isn’t any pricing or other information revealed on the upcoming Aprilia product as of yet.

Coming to the BS6 Yamaha FZS 25, the motorcycle features identical styling when compared to the 2020 FZ 25 except for some minor design enhancements. The all-new 250cc FZS variant features additional knuckle guards and a longer front visor in comparison to the standard model.

The BS6 Yamaha FZS 25 will be available to the customers in Dark Cyan, Dark Blue, and Metallic White colour schemes with the former two featuring gold-finished alloy wheels and the latter featuring an all-black alloy wheels setup.

Powering both the BS6 Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 is a BS6-compliant 249cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 20.8HP @ 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 20.1Nm @ 6,000 rpm. The engine has been mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Once launched in India, both the quarter-litre bikes from the brand will compete in the market against the likes of Suzuki Gixxer 250 and the recently launched Bajaj Dominar 250.

Honda CBR250RR is the most powerful twin-cylinder quarter-litre machine that one can imagine riding in the present generation of lightweight sportbikes. The motorcycle recently entered the latest generation with exclusive shades and features that are not seen on any nearby rival. Here are 5 quick facts about the 2020 model of the Honda CBR250RR sportbike.

2020 Honda CBR250RR Sportbike Quick Facts

1) Excellent Head-Turning Design: The sharp design of the sportbike is complemented by the double-barrel exhaust system, golden USD forks, and huge petal disc brakes. The fuel tank is chiselled to the soul while the rear end stays sharper than any other rival around the segment. The front design of the 2020 Honda CBR250RR sportbike flaunts two aggressive lights and a perfectly-designed windscreen.

2) Powerful 250cc Twin-Cylinder Engine: The 2020 Honda CBR250RR is equipped with a 249.7cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, two-cylinder engine that is now capable of offering maximum power of 41HP which is 3HP higher when compared to the 38HP offered by the last-gen variant.

The torque figure of the updated motorcycle variant has not been revealed as of yet though it is expected to be almost similar to the one offered by the last-gen version which stands at 23.3Nm. The engine remains mated to a 6-speed gearbox while the motorcycle claims 179kmph of top speed and takes approximately 6.2 seconds to reach 100kmph from a standstill.

3) Advanced & Very Informative Instrument Console: The Honda CBR250RR features an all-digital console with inverted colours. The speedometer value is accompanied by a borderline tachometer, a ride-mode indicator and a gear-shift indicator. The overall space is very well divided to bring digital clock and odometer into action. The console looks directly derived from a 1000cc superbike-spec machine.

4) Segment-First Features: Honda CBR250RR is equipped with ride-by-wire technology and riding modes. No other motorcycle in the 250cc segment gets these two features, not even as an option. The three riding modes are Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. The 2020 variant of the sports machine has also been equipped with a bi-directional quick-shifter. The Upside Down (USD) front forks were earlier exclusive to the CBR250RR but the MY2020 Yamaha R25/R3 recently got this feature.

5) Launch Status in India: This may not be a piece of good news for Honda fans but the launch of CBR250RR in India is only possible via local production route. At present, the 2020 ABS model of the sportbike is available in Japan for 847,000 yen (INR 5.89 lakh approx).

An aggressive and affordable price tag via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route is not possible as placing the CBR250RR at around INR 3.75-4.00 lakh (ex-showroom) would not get the number of buyers required by Honda to keep the operations going.

If Honda starts the local production of CBR250RR and manages to price the sports bike at around INR 3 lakh, only then the brand would be able to get a decent sales number in India.

As of now, HMSI has not announced anything officially regarding the launch of the CBR250RR in India. The brand may consider the sports bike for the Indian market at a later stage in future.
