Honda has launched the much awaited CBR650R in the Indian market for INR 7.70 lakh (ex-showroom). It is a worthy replacement for the aged CBR650F. Even though the motorcycle has undergone a big change with noticeable differences, the dedicated specs of a sports motorcycle are alive for sure. The Honda CBR650R is powered by a DOHC, 16-valve, four-cylinder, 649cc engine which puts out 87 HP of peak power and 60.1 Nm of torque.

The motorcycle is available in two colours: Grand Prix Red and Matte Gunpowder Black. It is equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) which maintains rear wheel traction. The bike is equipped with dual-channel ABS, dual LED headlights and stylish alloy wheels. The fuel tank capacity of the bike is 15.4 litres, bringing a good amount of range for a sportbike of its class. The top speed of CBR650R is around 220 kmph, and the total weight reduction in comparison to the older model is 6 kg.

Recently, Honda has announced the establishment of its first BigWing showroom in Gurugram. The newly-launched CBR650R will be seen on the grounds of the BigWing dealership and soon, the number of dealerships for the middleweight tourer may increase in India. Other than that, this sports bike is also available at Honda’s 22 Wing World dealerships. The starting period for the deliveries has not been revealed yet.

Honda India is currently staying low on the production front as they are facing inventory issues with their dealers. However, the CBR650R will be made on order as the local assembly may not take a long time once a pre-decided booking number is received. The powerful motorcycle rivals Kawasaki Ninja 650 indirectly while no direct rival with a fully faired body and four-cylinder engine exists in India. The ex-showroom price tag of INR 7.70 lakh is almost INR 32,000 higher than the price of CBR650F.

650cc Royal Enfield Twins can easily cross the 160 kph barrier, making them the most powerful machine ever built by the brand in India. The value equates to a top speed in excess of 100 mph for countries where the units are different than the Indian system. The values, along with the claimed WMTC mileage figure of 25.5 kmpl, were made official by Royal Enfield itself. The 648cc, twin-cylinder engine claims 80% of the available torque at 2500 rpm, leaving riders with more than 40 Nm of torque before even crouching and twisting the throttle hard on a highway.

Launched in November 2018, the Royal Enfield 650 Twins have seen outstanding demand considering their affordable price tags and retro designing, leading to an extended waiting period for the deliveries. At present, the waiting period stands at 3-6 months across the country in addition to a few extra days when it comes to different dealership locations.

Royal Enfield 650 Twins Production Increased to Meet High Demand

In order to axe the higher waiting time, the brand has increased production of the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 from 2500 units per month to 4000-5000 units a month. The delivery periods for both the cruisers remain the same even though the demand for Interceptor 650 is quite higher than its sibling. Royal Enfield’s Oragadam plant also experienced workers’ strike in the month of February, thus contributing to one of the reasons for untimely deliveries and extended waiting period.

Experiencing a gradual increase in the number of units sold for the 650 Twins, the brand was able to sell more than 1445 units in the month of February 2019. Powering the Royal Enfield 650 Twins is a 648cc, parallel twin cylinder, air-cooled engine capable of churning out a maximum power of 47 HP at 7,250 rpm and an utmost torque of 52 Nm at 5,250 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 650, a dream motorcycle for those who love tackling odd terrains at all times, is expected to launch in India next year. As Royal Enfield’s CEO Siddhartha Lal has already hinted at a bigger Himalayan, one fact that comes clear is that it will share the platform with the recently launched Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. Not just that, the brand will try its best to test the bigger Himalayan extensively before the official launch in 2020. The first version of Himalayan with 411cc, single cylinder engine was highly criticized for the least amount of testing before its launch.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 650
Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 India Launch Expected in 2020

The current-gen Himalayan is a failure for this impressive moniker and we hope that Royal Enfield runs full efficiency testing before things are made official for the 650cc model. Fans have high expectations from the brand and this would be the last chance for their off-road trial. The all-new 648cc, twin-cylinder motor on the  Himalayan 650 is expected to retain the same tune of 47 HP at 7250 rpm and 52 Nm at 5250 rpm. This makes the engine good for equal results when it comes to slow speed riding and highway cruising. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The present generation Himalayan comes with a 411cc, single cylinder engine producing 24.5 BHP at 6500 rpm and 32 Nm at 4250 rpm. The engine feels puny in front of the new twin-cylinder motor but still is quite responsive when compared to the old Royal Enfield engines. The tyre size on the present-gen Himalayan is perfect for the 650cc model while the ground clearance and suspension travel will change for sure with the new frame. The bigger Himalayan will support design changes to overcome the current limitations while pricing will surely be on the upper side of the 650cc Royal Enfield twins.

Siddhartha Lal, CEO, Royal Enfield, commenting on the launch of a new assembly plant in Thailand stated: “Thailand has become Royal Enfield’s third home after its origins in UK and success in India. The initial success of the 650 Twins in Thailand has proven that Royal Enfield is well poised to fill the gap in the mid-size segment. With a massive segment of commuters ready to upgrade and a robust long-distance, leisure riding culture in the country, Thailand offers huge headroom for growth for Royal Enfield. The motor is tuned for a unique feel with 61 HP @ 7500 rpm and 63 Nm @ 6600 rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Lack of aerodynamics and slight de-tune of power makes Vulcan S good for a top speed of 168 kmph. Kawasaki offers 705mm of seat height and 130mm of ground clearance with the new Vulcan S. It uses a single front and rear disc brake. At present, Vulcan S is available for INR 5.48 lakh (ex-showroom India).

The motorcycle rivals none other than Harley Davidson Street 750 in India. As the typical cruiser costs INR 5.33 lakh in India, Kawasaki has taken a bold step by keeping the price higher in comparison to the best-seller of this segment. Street 750 is powered by a 749cc, twin cylinder engine producing 59 Nm @ 3750 rpm. This makes it more powerful in overall terms as Street 750 claims 177 kmph of top speed in standard conditions. ABS is standard on both the cruisers. Both the bikes are city focused as fuel tank size is considerably smaller than that of a long distance cruiser.

Honda CBR650R was one among the amazing machines displayed at the EICMA 2018. Based on the India-spec CBR650F, the motorcycle has been officially listed on the Honda India website. The updated model is expected to carry an ex-showroom price tag of around INR 8 lakh in India. The list of differences is huge this time, enhancing the visual as well as riding nature of the motorcycle. Here are seven must-know facts for the 2019 Honda CBR650R.

7 Must-Know Facts About Honda CBR650R

1) Twin Headlight Design

The twin headlight design is inspired by the litre-class CBR1000RR, leaving behind the old single headlight design that looked more like a faired version of some street machine. The face offers bubble visor, impressive three-tone finish and twin LED headlight design on the motorcycle. The headlights are paired with two air intakes.

2) R Moniker

The R moniker used here makes CBR650R the most valuable machine at its price point. The same underpinnings were earlier sold under the F moniker that generally brings faired versions of street machines from Honda. The added performance bits into the motorcycle proves the R legacy with pride.

3) Minimal Fairing

The reduction in fairing is one more point to be noted on the new CBR650R. The engine is almost visible, showing how neatly Honda connected the fairing with the headlight area to maximize air-flow into the heated section. The heat escapes the area with ease and brings better performance on the track.

4) Aggressive Riding Position

Honda has made several notable changes to the sitting position of the rider on the new CBR650R. The handlebar is now lower-placed while footpegs are a bit rear mounted, resulting in an aggressive riding position. The angle is strict in comparison to the regular bikes but mild when compared to a proper track bike.

5) Smart Exhaust

The four-into-one exhaust system on the CBR650R is smarter than all others available in this segment. The unit is short, well placed and looks perfect on a 650cc bike. The use of under-seat or full-sized exhaust could have ended the exclusivity factor for Honda CBR650R.

6) Improved Engine Response

Honda claims better engine response between idle and 8000 rpm for the CBR650R. It comes with an inline-4 motor, producing 5% of more power than the existing model with F moniker. The reduction in weight results in 6 kg lighter motorcycle, helping improve the power-to-weight ratio by 8%.

7) Modern Console

The old console from CBR650F makes way for this coloured LCD on the CBR650R. The unit now comes with gear position indicator, gear upshift indicator, rpm peak-hold display and engine temperature indicator.
