Bajaj Auto has extensively tested the new model to achieve maximum performance out of the 373cc engine, using DOHC setup and taking the output up to 40 HP on the motorcycle. The peak torque is now achieved 500 rpm above the existing number and thus, the motorcycle can be revved harder than before. The new colours look great and can improve the user base for the brand in the premium segment. The motorcycle is priced at INR 1.74 lakh, undercutting the rivals by almost INR 50,000 in India. Dominar is priced at such a point that even Duke 250 feels overpriced in front of it.

2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 is the most talked-about product with its improved dynamics, better than ever feature list and more power on the charts. The jump of 5 HP in the output, that too at just 650 rpm over the last generation model surely means something. Dino’s Vault has tested the motorcycle for acceleration, braking, and exhaust sound. The motorcycle now comes with USD forks for better handling while brake callipers at the front are radially-mounted for a better feel. Dino feels that the gear position indicator should have been integrated into the main display as looking at the secondary console takes the eyes away from the road for once.

The DTS-i technology helps the brand gain more efficiency from the Dominar in terms of power, mileage, and emissions. The paint quality of the new Dominar is worth praising. The acceleration out of the motorcycle is simply explosive while braking is improved in comparison to the last generation version. The tires are good for everyday riding but Dino felt the need of Metzelers for those who are into tough corners and high-speed riding. The motorcycle is priced at INR 1.74 lakh and offers the most exciting components for a motorcycle of its segment.

2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 is a true flagship motorcycle with class-leading values on all terms. The massive 373.2cc, DOHC, liquid cooled, fuel injected engine on Dominar is good for 40 HP of maximum power at 8650 rpm while 35 Nm of maximum torque is delivered at just 7000 rpm.

At present, Dominar 400 is priced at INR 1.74 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 2019 variant with advanced features and a lot of improvements in comparison to the last-gen model. Here are the pros and cons of having 2019 Bajaj Dominar as your next big bike.

Bajaj Dominar 400 Pros & Cons

Pros of 2019 Dominar 400

1) Head-Turning Design: Bajaj Dominar has always been a looker and the 2019 model is even better! The profile is inspired by a Lion’s stance and stays true to the same with commanding front half. The fuel tank is well-designed while wide tyres offer confidence in terms of design as well as everyday use. The premium finish on the USD forks and rear monoshock shows how attention to detail was given by Bajaj Auto.

2) Good Performance & Mileage: The best part of buying Dominar 400 is its powerful engine and eye-popping performance, taking into consideration that it is being pitched as a sports cruiser. The engine generates 40 HP of power and 35 Nm of torque within accessible rpm levels, making the Dominar really effective in all kinds of driving conditions. The motorcycle claims 0-100 kmph run in just 7.1 seconds while the top speed is claimed to be 156 kmph, though we expect the 2019 model to easily cross 160 kmph. Though Bajaj has not revealed the mileage officially, it is expected to return around 30 kmpl of mileage under mixed riding conditions.

3) All-LED Headlight: Bajaj Dominar 400 comes with a full LED headlight. The use of LED light makes it even more effective in low light conditions and facilitate the rider during rough weather. The beam is strong enough to provide hassle-free night riding and uses even less power than the conventional light bulbs. The beam of LED light is crystal clear and helpful in completing long journeys without caring for the day or night.

4) 2-Channel ABS & Slipper Clutch: The motorcycle is equipped with dual-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to avoid the wheels getting locked in case of aggressive braking. Bajaj Dominar is also equipped with a slipper clutch. It helps in quicker downshifts, and in avoiding torque loss during gear shifts. The use of modern technology helps the Dominar achieve a special place in the Indian motorcycling industry.

5) High Paint Quality: Dominar 400 comes with three-layer paint coating, providing a rich and exclusive finish. Not just that, it even comes with totally different paint schemes from other Bajaj motorcycles. The motorcycle is offered in Auroral Green and Vine Black shade. Even alloy wheels are finished in black/chrome shade. Dominar feels like a perfect big bike for people who are willing to upgrade from smaller capacity bikes.

6) Informative Instrument Console: Bajaj offers first-in-class, split instrument console on the Dominar 400. It carries a standard LCD panel within its handlebar with a dot-matrix display. The reverse lit unit carries everything from speedometer, tachometer, odometer, clock, trip meter and other values. The second unit is placed on the fuel tank and comes out as equally functional to the given variant. The twin console seems to be inspired by other big bikes from European manufacturers.

7) 43mm Front USD Forks: Dominar 400 offers 43mm USD front forks, which are much bigger than normally offered forks on other bikes around the segment. For a simple comparison, you can see that 43mm forks are offered in litre class bikes around the world. The suspension on Dominar 400 provides the most stable ride around its price segment. It even comes with a rear multi-step adjustable mono-shock.

8) Excellent Value for Money: The 2018 model of Dominar was available at INR 1.63 lakh, while the 2019 model comes with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 1.74 lakh. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom Delhi. In comparison to the old model, the new Dominar comes with a more-powerful DOHC engine, updated instrument console, front USD forks, and new double barrel exhaust. This makes 2019 Dominar a very good value for money bike and it easily beats other bikes in its segment when it comes to the pricing.

Cons of 2019 Dominar 400

1) Small Fuel Tank: The motorcycle carries loads of power but it won’t take a long distance for the rider to stop for a refill on Bajaj Dominar 400. The 13-litre fuel tank will not be able to provide 400 plus kilometres before the bike runs out of fuel. Bajaj should have kept it close to 17-18 litres for much better long ride experience.

2) Heavy: Bajaj Dominar 400 is too heavy at 184.5 kg, due to which it might not be an easy job to manoeuvre it on city roads under high traffic riding conditions. Bajaj should have tried to make it lighter by 8-10 kgs by using premium and lightweight components. But high weight, on the other hand, makes it more stable on the highway.

3) Limited Color Options: The 2019 Dominar 400 is available in just 2 shades: Auroral Green and Vine Black. It is expected that Bajaj will launch more colours in the coming months, but at present, a lot of buyers are going to miss the White, Blue, and Red colour options that were available in 2018.

Such close pricing between Dominar 400 and Jawa Classic means tougher decision making for the buyers. The people considering nostalgic brand value will definitely move towards the Jawa side while those expecting class-leading performance still have many reasons to choose the 2019 Dominar 400.

The engine on Jawa Classic 300 is 80cc smaller than the flagship Bajaj bike, resulting in lesser torque and low power. The weight difference of 14.5 kg makes Jawa comparable for real-world performance. The braking section is definitely stronger for the Dominar, with 320mm front disc brake claiming benchmark anchoring power for the machine.

2019 Bajaj Dominar vs 2018 Bajaj Dominar (Quick Comparison): Bajaj Auto recently launched the much-awaited 2019 Dominar in India with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 1.74 lakh. The motorcycle has undergone a complete performance transformation in the 2019 variant, gaining just 2.5 kg of weight and taking the overall power output to 40 HP.

The 2019 Dominar 400 comes with dual exhaust exits, USD front forks with a metallic finish and chrome-finished dual tone alloy wheels. The six-speed gearbox stays the same but features a different setting for improved in-gear acceleration.

2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 is here with a bunch of additions over the last version. The motorcycle is available with every component that one wished from the brand and not just that, the additions are worth-praising at all costs. Here are the five reasons why you should consider the upgraded Dominar as your next bike.

5 Reasons to Buy 2019 Bajaj Dominar

1) Enhanced Performance

2019 Dominar comes with an updated engine with 40 HP at 8650 rpm and 35 Nm at 7000 rpm. The availability of 4.9 HP of more power and the same amount of torque means Dominar performance is now above all others around the segment. The updated model weighs just 2.5 kg over the older version, improving the power-to-weight ratio by a good margin. Even the way power is delivered will feel different to experienced riders as the gearing now allows 100 kph+ of speed in the third gear. The approximate top speed of the new Dominar is around 165 kmph.

2) USD (Upside Down) Front Forks

2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 comes with bright USD forks instead of the conventional setup of the old model. This not just improves the stability of the new model, but also brings a high amount of handling improvement when changing directions. The premium feature will make the 2019 Dominar owners feel more confident at all times.

3) Brilliant Colors & Eye-Catching Exhaust Design

Bajaj Auto has launched the 2019 Dominar in 2 shades: Charcoal Grey and Auroral Green. The White and Red option is expected to enter India at a later stage. The switching back to chrome/black alloy wheels is a definite smart move by the brand, keeping in mind the popularity of the combination. The new exhaust design with dual exits is also equally praiseworthy.

The intelligent section tagged as DOT Matrix display brings values like average speed, different fuel consumption figures and much more to the owner. The rpm limit is now 13,000 for the motorcycle. There is also a secondary information console mounted on the fuel tank. It displays trip-meter, gear indicator, and it also features a digital clock.

2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 vs KTM 390 Duke (Quick Comparison): Bajaj Dominar is the most happening product of 2019, rivalling none other than KTM 390 Duke in the market with its premium list of components and added practicality. The new Dominar is available with 40 HP of maximum power, all-new front USD forks with a metallic finish and updated instrument console with more features that were demanded by the fans over the last few years.

The best part is the use of a DOHC engine, claiming the same sort of purity as seen in the KTM engines. The last generation engine was SOHC and thus, the total output and power delivery method were different. Now the total gap in output is limited to just 3.5 HP between both the bikes.

However, the gap in weight has expanded further for the two bikes, making the KTM an impressive option for faster 0-100 kph sprints. The 390 Duke also features 2 Nm of more torque than the Dominar 400. The top speed department won’t feel the heat here as both the bikes have a refined six-speed gearbox, and both the street fighters have an aerodynamic design.

The price range for both the bikes target different buyers as Bajaj Dominar is priced at INR 1.74 lakh in comparison to the huge INR 2.44 lakh worth price tag of the KTM 390 Duke. The total gap is INR 70,000 and this will expand further with the inclusion of on-road taxation and insurance value. Here is a quick comparison between 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 and KTM 390 Duke.

New Bajaj Dominar vs Old Bajaj Dominar (Video Comparison): 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 is a revolution for those who require the most premium available components and cannot afford a single rupee getting wasted on things irrelevant to pure motorcycling pleasure. The 2018 Dominar was a benchmark for its time and thus, getting the updated version will only raise the goosebumps once the throttle is twisted hard. Comparison among both the models show how the 2019 variant has grown over time, using better technology and parts to manage the 40 HP output. The radiator is now more effective with bigger size and front flaunts the USD forks with pride on the 2019 variant.

The exhaust has two exits on the new model while alloy wheels are back into the chrome-black finish than the golden ones on the 2018 variant. The seats have straps to tie luggage on the rear seat. The monoshock setting has been revised, along with the seat cushioning on the 2019 variant. Both things improve the overall comfort level of the rider. The rearview mirror design is another upgrade that seems practical for riders with extensive highway usage. The powerful DOHC engine takes the overall output up by 5 HP, which is definitely a big number considering the 35 HP peak power on the 2018 variant of Bajaj Dominar.
