Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) is one very important safety feature for motorcycles in India. It does not just help one avoid tire skidding in emergency braking but also makes it easy for riders to brake on wet roads. Only a limited number of ABS Bikes in India are under INR 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom) while most bikes above this segment are equipped with ABS as standard.

It is not yet known why brands keep single-channel ABS on bikes as the difference in price is just INR 2000 for the unit seen on NS200 and that on the Dominar 400. Suzuki offers the most value for money bikes with ABS as they charge just INR 7000 (approx) for the feature.

In case of single-channel ABS, only the front wheel comes with ABS-equipped brake while dual-channel ABS offers the same on both brakes. TVS is the only brand in India which offers 2-channel ABS under INR 1 lakh in its Apache RTR 180.

A majority of buyers are looking for value for money bikes in India and the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 has eventually topped the list due to its class-leading features and mind-boggling price. BMW-Motorrad launched the G310R in India for INR 2.99 lakh, leaving many fans with emotional pain and hopes falling short of expectations. It may not sound like a straightforward comparison for hundreds of BMW fans but, the New Bajaj Dominar 400 needs some formal praise for being highly affordable and equally practical. Here are five reasons why considering 2019 Bajaj Dominar is a good option over the BMW G310R.

BMW G310R
BMW G310R

5 Reasons Why 2019 Bajaj Dominar is a Better Buy than the BMW G310R

1) Value for Money

New Dominar 400 is expected to be priced around INR 1.80 lakh, and it is placed much lower in comparison to the BMW G310R at INR 2.99 lakh. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom. The price gap of around INR 1.20 lakh is unjustified in all terms, leaving buyers with an option of getting an additional Yamaha R15S with a Dominar 400. BMW seems to be using the name for extra cash-in as the fully-faired Apache RR 310 at INR 1.99 Lakh is priced INR 1 lakh lower in comparison to the G310R in Kerala. 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 offers excellent value for money in comparison to the G310R.

2) Performance Difference

BMW G310R uses a 313cc, single cylinder engine producing 34HP and 28Nm. When compared to Bajaj Dominar 400, the values feel dull and unexciting. The 373cc, single cylinder engine on the New Dominar 400 is sufficient for 40HP and 35Nm. The additional weight on the Dominar is managed by the extra torque, claiming much higher top speed (165 kph, approx.) than the BMW roadster (143 kmph, company claimed).

3) Spare Part Availability/Price

After spending a tremendous amount on G310R, buyers will get continuous shocks in the form of spare part availability and pricing. Being a BMW, G310R will bring greater bills for each service. Even the TVS Apache RR 310 has a higher cost for essential parts than other bikes around this segment. Dominar 400 is not just affordable but, also cares for your pocket at later stages of ownership.

4) Dealer Touch-points & Service Centres

BMW Motorrad has a limited number of dealer touch-points in India. Bajaj Auto, on the other hand, offers Dominar from its long list of dealerships. The difference is incomparable, leaving Dominar 400 as a more practical option. Servicing and other after-sales tasks are easily manageable when choosing Bajaj Dominar 400.

5) Equipment & Components

BMW G310R and the 2019 Bajaj Dominar, are powered by a single cylinder, fuel injected, and liquid cooled engine. Both the motorcycles also offer USD forks, 2-channel ABS, wide tires and digital instrument console as standard. Dominar comes with additional equipment like a slipper clutch and LED headlight. We can safely say the 2019 Bajaj Dominar is definitely a better buy than the BMW G310R.

2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 has been confirmed with a DOHC engine, leaving buyers with no complaints of performance as well as refinement levels. The new engine setup is good for 40 HP of peak power and 35 Nm of max torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with different ratios for better initial performance. The rpm range on the tachometer ends at 13,000 while those who need an enjoyable ride will need to hover between 7000-9000 rpm on the new Dominar.

Apart from the engine, the new motorcycle features USD front forks, all-new exhaust design, updated console screens, and better paint finish. The powerful sports tourer now weight 184.5 kg, gaining 2.5 kg of overall weight in comparison to the 2018 35 HP Dominar variant. As the new model gains traction in the sub-400cc segment, the rivals are now felt overpriced with the lack of technology in their engines. Even the new Auroral Green shade feels exclusive on the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400.

2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 is almost here with a bunch of additions over the last version. The motorcycle is available with every possible component that one can expect from the brand and not just that, the additions are worth-praising at all costs. Here are the five reasons why you should wait for the upgraded Dominar before making a purchase for your next bike.

5 Reasons to Wait for the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400

1) Enhanced Performance – The 2019 model of Dominar comes with an updated 373.2cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine with 39.9 HP at 8650 rpm and 35 Nm at 7000 rpm. The availability of 4.9 HP of more power and the same amount of torque means Dominar performance is now above all others around the segment.

The updated model weighs just 2.5 kg over the older version, improving the power-to-weight ratio by a good margin. Experienced riders will even feel a difference in the way the power is delivered as the gearing now allows 100+ kmph of speed in the third gear.

2) USD Front Forks – 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 comes with bright USD forks instead of the conventional setup of the old model. This not just improves the stability on the Dominar, but also brings high amounts of handling improvement when changing directions. This premium suspension component will make the 2019 Dominar owners feel more confident at all times.

3) Brilliant Colors – Bajaj Auto has pushed the updated image on their official website, showing the new Dominar in bright red shade and chrome finished alloy wheels. The motorcycle has also been spotted in a pure white shade while the leaked images confirm the same in gloss green shade. The switching back to chrome/black alloy wheels is a definite smart move by the brand, keeping in mind the popularity of the combination. The new exhaust design with dual exits is also equally praiseworthy.

4) Updated Instrument Console – 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 comes with an updated primary console with space for alerts and messages in a dedicated section. The intelligent section tagged as Dot Matrix display section brings values like average speed, different fuel consumption figures and much more to the owner. The rpm limit is now 13,000 for the motorcycle.

Instrument Console Features

  • Console Type: All-Digital
  • Console Back Light: White
  • Fuel Level Indicator: LCD, Bars
  • Speedometer: LCD, Numeric
  • Tachometer: LCD, Bars
  • Malfunction Indicator: LED, Yellow
  • Turn Signal Indicator: LED, Green
  • ABS Indicator: LED, Yellow
  • High-Beam Indicator: LED, Blue
  • Neutral Indicator: LED, Green
  • Low Oil Pressure Indicator: Alert Message in DOT Matrix Display

5) Expected Price Point – Even after adding all these features to the Dominar, one can expect the price change to be decent for the motorcycle. The expected price for the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 is INR 1.75-1.80 lakh. The on-road price may cross INR 2 lakh in many states.
