With the launch of Bharat NCAP on October 1, 2023, India will have its very own new car assessment program. More than 30 vehicles have already been nominated for crash testing under this program.
Many of the well-known or best-selling vehicles in India have undergone crash testing by Global NCAP at some point during any of their iterations. The seven vehicles we wish to see at the BNCAP, however, are those that have not been subjected to any of the GNCAP's safety evaluations:
1. Maruti Fronx
One of the most recent Maruti launches is already on the list of the best-selling automobiles in India. The Baleno hatchback, on which the Maruti Fronx is based, had a safety rating of zero stars during a prior iteration of crash testing. It's crucial to remember that the safety shield in the previous model wasn't as effective as the one in the current one, which has up to six airbags and an electronic stability program (ESP), both of which can help the vehicle receive a higher rating. If the crossover SUV is put through crash testing at BNCAP, it will notify us about its own safety features and provide us with a signal about how safe the current Baleno is.
The Fronx is equipped with up to six airbags, 3-point seatbelts for each passenger, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program (ESP), a hill hold aid, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree camera as safety features. 7.46 lakh to 13.13 lakh is the price range.
2. Maruti Grand Vitara
The brand-new Maruti Grand Vitara has found some traction since its September 2023 launch. The Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq, two vehicles with 5-star ratings, are already available in one of the most crowded SUV marketplaces where the tiny SUV competes. We want it to be one of the 30 vehicles on BNCAP's list that will shortly undergo a crash test so that we can assess its fitness for passenger safety.
Up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program (ESP), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360-degree camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchors are among the safety features included with the Grand Vitara. From Rs. 10.70 lakh to Rs. 19.99 lakh, it costs.
3. The Mahindra Bolero
The boxy and rugged Mahindra SUV is one of the most well-known designs in the country. With the 5-star Global NCAP safety ratings for the XUV700 and Scorpio N, Mahindra has made considerable improvements in recent years to strengthen the safety of its vehicles. We assume that the Bolero will receive a comparable safety rating, but this won't be known until the SUV has undergone BNCAP's crash testing. For a while, the Bolero has been a popular choice.
All that the Bolero has to offer in terms of basic safety features is a pair of front airbags, ABS with EBD, seatbelt reminders, and rear parking sensors. Between Rs. 9.78 lakh and Rs. 10.79 lakh is the price range for the rugged SUV.
4. Maruti Dzire
With an average monthly sales volume of 11,000 units, the Maruti Dzire frequently ranks among the top ten best-selling cars. With such strong sales, there are also expectations for great safety. After being crash-tested, the Maruti Swift was given a 1-star safety rating by Global NCAP earlier this year. We have assumed that the Dzire's safety is equal to that of the hatchback because it is based on the Swift. However, it would be advantageous if the Dzire had its own BNCAP crash-test rating.
ISOFIX child seat anchors, a hill hold assist, two front airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and a rear parking camera are all features of the current Dzire model. 6.51 lakh to 9.39 lakh rupees is the price range.
5. Hyundai Exter
The Hyundai Exter, a more recent model on the Indian market, has already climbed the list of best-selling vehicles. The Grand i10 Nios, which performed poorly in the Global NCAP crash tests, is the model upon which the small SUV is based. It would be fascinating to see how the Hyundai Exter performs in the Bharat NCAP crash tests given the structural alterations the SUV has undergone as well as the basic safety features it comes with, like as six airbags and electronic stability control.
The Exter also has ISOFIX child seat anchors, a rear parking camera, ABS with EBD, and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The cost of the recently released compact SUV ranges from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 10.10 lakh.
6. Hyundai Venue
One of the most well-liked sub-4 m SUVs available in India is the Hyundai Venue. This small SUV has undergone crash testing at Australian NCAP, where it received a 4-star safety rating, however, the India-specific model has not yet undergone testing. It needs to undergo a crash test at Bharat NCAP to see whether it can match that rating for the Indian market or even improve to a 5-star rating.
Up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold assist, a rear parking camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchors make up the Venue's safety net. The subcompact SUV costs between Rs 7.77 lakh and Rs 13.48 lakh.
7. Toyota Innova Crysta
The Innova Crysta is another vehicle that has undergone crash testing, but this time at the ASEAN NCAP, where it received a 5-star safety rating. Its strong diesel engine and rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration have made it a popular MPV in India.
It has seven airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control (VSC), hill hold assist, braking assist, and front and rear parking sensors. The price range for the Toyota MPV is between Rs 19.99 lakh and Rs 26.05 lakh.
