Yamaha R15 V2 owners know the feeling of riding a young supersport motorcycle and each one of them must have imagined how a similar genre flagship would look under their possession. Taking the front seat here, a Vietnam-based modifier has converted the second generation Yamaha R15 into a BMW HP4 Race.

The motorcycle featured here feels slightly different as the front and rear wheels have been kept stock to avoid engine overkill. The front fascia is derived from the INR 86.70 lakh BMW HP4 Race, leaving the headlights behind for this aerodynamically efficient fairing and golden USD front forks.

Unlike the BMW HP4 Race, this modified R15 features the much-celebrated pillion seat. However, the high tail design of the R15 V2 has helped the motorcycle look like a proper race bike. The modifier has used decorative faux carbon fibre parts to add more sporty feel into the product.

In fact, the addition of frame sliders on both sides will protect the fragile side panels during a sudden fall. The side fairing of the motorcycle features HP4 and BMW monikers while the seat used here comes with better padding than the stock model of the BMW HP4 Race for more comfort-filled hours on the track.

The exhaust used here is different from the original one on the BMW HP4 Race but this one is also equally impressive in terms of exhaust sound and design improvement. The effect of this Akrapovic unit is unknown as performance values for the motorcycle are not yet available.

Even though the 149cc engine on the R15 V2 is good for 17 HP, the level of attention paid while making this motorcycle confirms that eyeballs will roll with its tyres on every road for sure.

The braking also stays stock, leaving this Yamaha-based HP4 Race with a single front and rear disc, that too without any other addition except for the Brembo master cylinder. Here is the complete photo gallery of the Yamaha R15 V2, which has been modified to look like a BMW HP4 Race.

BMW HP4 Race is now available in India with a price tag of INR 86.70 lakh. The German manufacturer is known for its reliable machines that perform extensively well in the toughest possible circumstances. If you are a fan of high-performance motorcycles with a unique approach, these five must know facts for BMW HP4 Race will blow away your mind.

5 Interesting Facts About BMW HP4 Race

1) Featherweight Frame & Body

HP4 Race measures 2070mm in length, 777mm in width and 1193mm in height. These dimensions match to almost entire SuperSport category racers available around the world. What’s astonishing here is that HP4 Race weighs just 146kg (dry) and adds 25.4kg to take on any challenge. This added weight includes 17.5-litres of fuel, tipping the scale at 171.4kg. For comparison, a motorcycle producing the same amount of power weighs around 200kg. You get KTM RC 390’s weight with a litre-class engine under the fairing.

2) Powerful Engine & Premium Components

BMW HP4 Race comes with a 999cc, inline-4 engine, producing 215HP at 13,900 rpm and 120Nm at 10,000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed, anti-hopping clutch with straight cut gears. What makes HP Race even more special is the use of racing camshafts, four titanium valves, and Pankl connecting rod. The engine comes with electronic racing injection and full titanium WSBK racing exhaust.

3) Engine Life & Replacement Interval

If you feel that buying this INR 86.70 lakh motorcycle would be the only expense, this track bike has a different story. The engine requires rebuilding (not to be confused with servicing) after a 5000km interval. The cost of rebuilding is so high that BMW recommends buying a new engine for 15,000 euros (INR 12 lakh approx). The value seen here is without import tax. The high price makes every kilometre highly expensive to ride.

4) Most Expensive Motorcycle in India

At INR 86.70 lakh, BMW HP4 Race is the most expensive motorcycle in India that you can buy from a dealership. Earlier, this record was held by Kawasaki Ninja H2R at INR 72 lakh. As both these bikes are track legal only, no extra registration charge will be applicable to both of them. In fact, you will need a towing vehicle to carry the same around different tracks or hire a professional service occasionally.

5) Missing Parts

Those who are new to track bikes, you will be amazed to see no headlight, tail light, indicators, number plates or rear mudguard on the bike. All these are not available on track bikes to keep their overall weight lower. A rear seat cowl saves additional weight by replacing the pillion seat. Above all, the frame and wheels on BMW HP4 Race are made out of carbon fibre, giving them additional strength and agility, in comparison to other track spec bikes with road legal properties.

Kawasaki Ninja H2R vs BMW HP4 Race (Quick Comparison): The 2019 model of Ninja H2R rivals BMW HP4 Race in the Indian market. H2R is supercharged and proves its worth by pushing 326 PS of maximum power out of the 998cc engine. No other production motorcycle has ever reached this mark. All this comes with a wet weight of 216 kg, resulting in the most extreme output of 1.50 PS/kg. In comparison to the H2R, BMW H4 Race is more focused on weight reduction and claims an output of 1.25 PS/kg of body weight.

The regular litre-class motorcycles mostly achieve 1:1 ratio while these two have a 1.50:1 and 1.25:1 ratio. Both the motorcycles are track-specific examples of their respective road versions. Kawasaki and BMW are using the most expensive parts available for the top-spec products. However, the CBU route doubles the price tag by adding a 100% tax on the price of these two bikes. Kawasaki Ninja H2R costs INR 72 lakh while BMW HP4 Race costs INR 86.70 lakh in India.

India’s first BMW HP4 Race has reached the Delhi dealership and seems ready for delivery. The motorcycle is a track-specific option with no charges of registration bound to its purchase. The model costs INR 85 lakh and comes in a single shade option only. Lutyens Motorrad, the dealer for BMW Motorrad in the north region, will deliver the HP4 Race to Mr. Vikram Oberoi. For those who think the names feels familiar, he is the same man who bought the one-off India specific Ducati 1299 Superleggera for INR 1.12 Crore. The HP4 Race comes with similar statistics and a slightly more wet weight.

The primary building material for this rare superbike is carbon fiber, saving a lot more weight than one can expect by even removing the unnecessary panels. BMW HP4 Race is also limited to 750 units, adding one gem to the collection of limited edition bikes by Mr. Oberoi. The motorcycle is based on BMW S1000RR, adding some really exotic list of components to reach this exclusive point. The 999cc engine uses titanium parts to resist the added performance, producing 215 hp of maximum power at 13,900 rpm and 120 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm.

The engine claims a top speed in excess of 300 kph while wheels are lighter by 30 percent than standard aluminum wheels. This not just helps in overall weight reduction but, also lowers the rotational force required to move the wheels. The front end comes with carbon fiber fairing, Ohlins suspension, and Ohlins TTX monoshock. The motorcycle weighs just 171.4 kg, lower in comparison to any road going liter-class racer or even similar to a fully fuelled KTM RC 390. Imagine 215 hp coming through the twist of a throttle in place of the 43.5 hp available on stock KTM RC390.

BMW HP4 Race is now officially available in India for INR 85 lakh. The launch seems to be a silent affair as the brand recently updated its official price list with this track-only model. The price tag will not carry any additional taxation as registering the motorcycle won’t be possible due to its track legal status.

It comes without a headlight and taillight, leaving no space for number-plate or anything else that is not useful while racing hard. The performance spec model is powered by a 999cc engine, four-cylinders and four titanium valves per cylinder, producing 215HP at 13,900 rpm and 120 Nm at 10,000 rpm.

The values feel regular when one compares the same with a Ducati Panigale V4 but, game-changing attitude comes alive through Akrapovic full titanium exhaust and 171.4kg of race-ready weight. The lowest possible wet weight comes through the extensive use of carbon fiber in its frame, body parts and wheels.

The weight reduction from moving parts results in better overall performance and class-leading control. The carbon monocoque RTM frame on BMW HP4 Race pairs with Ohlins FGR 300 front and TTX 36 GP rear suspension. The bike comes with 6-speed race spec EVO gearbox with an anti-hopping clutch.

The braking power on HP4 comes from Brembo 320mm twin front discs. It comes with a 220mm disc brake for the rear wheel. Pirelli sourced Diabolo Superbike Slick SC2 tires are available for class-leading grip levels at both ends. BMW HP4 Race is the only carbon fiber equipped motorcycle on sale in India.

Ducati Superleggera was also available here for INR 1.12 Crore. It went out of stock as soon as the single unit was sold. 2018 HP4 Race is also a limited production variant, with just 750 units worldwide and no exact number mentioned for India.

BMW Motorrad recently launched the production version of HP4 Race superbike in USA for $78,000. Limited to just 750 units for the global market, the intense carbon fiber use on the HP4 Race helps it weigh just 146 kg (dry). The motorcycle is good for 215 HP @ 13,900 rpm and 120 Nm @ 10,000 rpm. BMW HP4 Race is expected to be priced around INR 1 Crore (ex-showroom). The top speed of the bike is around 330 kmph.

BMW HP4 Race comes with a race spec 6-speed gearbox while its engine limiter cuts off at 14,500 rpm. Even after being so low in its overall weight, electronic features like dynamic traction control, wheelie control, launch control and pit lane limiter are present on the motorcycle. The carbon fiber main frame weighs just 7.8 kg, made completely out of carbon fiber and helped BMW lose a lot of weight by keeping its rigidity alive.

BMW HP4 Race: Masterpiece of Engineering Prowess

Wheels on the HP4 Race are even made out of carbon fiber. Every component on the motorcycle flaunts it premium appeal. The front suspension is Ohlins FGR 300 USD forks while rear is an Ohlins TTX 36 GP monoshock. Brembo GP4 PR calipers with racing steel 320 mm dual disc are at braking duties on the front while the rear uses a 220mm single disc brake. BMW HP4 comes with an all aluminum fuel tank and comes painted in BMW Motorsports shade.

The motorcycle in competition includes Ducati Superleggera as it is the only other bike with carbon fiber components. It even carries around the same wet weight while BMW offers Akrapovic race spec exhaust on its new motorcycle. Another rival is the most powerful production motorcycle, the Kawasaki Ninja H2R.
