Complete List of BS4 Bike Discounts [Deadline Extended]: The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is the only reason for the declining Indian economy from the past month, though the worst effects can be effectively seen on the Indian automotive segment. Since the BS6 emission norms were all-set to be valid in the country from April 1, 2020, the manufacturers were informed to liquidate their BS4 inventory before the deadline of March 31, 2020.

Though, the decreased football across the entire nation as well as the immediate lockdown to tackle the COVID-19 had made the manufacturers unable to sell their BS4 portfolio before the said date. Pleading for the relief measures, the authorities filed a plea with the Supreme Court for the extension of the BS4 deadline while the court has only offered a 10-day extended period post the lockdown for the manufacturers to sell only 10% of their remaining inventory.

As per the latest updates, the nationwide lockdown has been extended till May 17, 2020. So if the nationwide lockdown will end on May 17, 2020, the dealerships or manufacturers would be allowed to sell their BS4 products from May 18 to May 27 and not after that. Major brands have now extended the validity of the discounts available on the BS4 bikes in the Indian market to liquidate the BS4 stock as soon as possible after the lockdown.

Huge Discount on BS4 Vespa and Aprilia Scooters: As per the latest media reports, some of the Piaggio dealerships are offering discounts of up to INR 40,000 on the Aprilia and Vespa scooters in the Indian markets. The discounts are only valid on the BS4 variants of the scooters and have been specifically offered to clear out the remaining BS4 inventory before the extended deadline ends.

Up to INR 40,000 Discount on BS4 Vespa and Aprilia Scooters

As the manufacturers and dealerships were not able to sell most of their BS4 inventory before the April 1, 2020 deadline because of the decreased footfall due to the nationwide lockdown being the major reason of the cause, the authorities had filed a petition with the Supreme Court for the extension of the BS4 deadline. The Supreme Court has complied with the terms and as per its decision, the dealerships are now allowed to sell 10% of their remaining BS4 inventory within the 10 days post the lockdown is lifted.

Since the last date of the nationwide lockdown has now been extended to May 3, 2020, the manufacturers are expected to open their shutters on the said date which gives them a 10-day window between May 4 and May 13 to sell their remaining BS4 inventory. Thus Piaggio is offering discounts of up to INR 40,000 on its BS4 portfolio of the Vespa and Aprilia scooters.

According to recent reports, the BS4 vehicle registration deadline is expected to be extended for the automobile dealerships in the Indian markets. Since the nationwide lockdown to curb the coronavirus has been extended by the officials till May 3, 2020, the previously provided April 30 deadline by the Supreme Court to register the BS4 vehicles is expected to be extended further.

On April 14, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation, increased the nationwide lockdown till May 3, 2020. The petition filed by Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) and other authorities to the Supreme Court for the extension of BS4 deadline was ruled in the favour of manufactures which allowed them to register their unregistered BS4 inventory till April 30, 2020.

Since now the lockdown has been extended till May 3 which is the date the manufacturers are expected to open their gates, the BS4 vehicle registration deadline extension is the need of the hour. As per the reports, there are 1,05,000 BS4 two-wheelers, 2,250 BS4 passenger vehicles and 2,000 BS4 commercial vehicles that have been sold by the dealerships before the lockdown but are still required to be registered.

As far as the sales of the BS4 vehicles are concerned, the Supreme Court has permitted the manufacturers to sell 10% of their remaining BS4 inventory within just 10 days post the lockdown and the decision will remain the same.

So if the nationwide lockdown will lift on May 3, 2020, the dealerships or manufacturers would be allowed to sell their BS4 products from May 4 to May 13 and not after that. The dealerships currently have crores of unsold BS4 stock with the nationwide lockdown and decreased footfall being the major reasons for the same.

Honda to Buyback Unsold BS4 Inventory: Since dealing with the coronavirus has brought the entire nation to a standstill, every citizen and organization is offering its bit to lessen the impact caused by the pandemic with Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) being the latest one. The brand has announced several relief measures to help its sales and service partners across India in the time of need.

HMSI has recently announced an extension of service and warranty for the Honda motorcycle and scooter owners till June 30th while the now the brand has announced a support package that will offer immediate liquidity to its dealers.

According to the recent initiative, the brand will effectively offer advance incentives and reimbursements across the three functions including sales, service and spare parts. In addition to this, the brand will be buying back the BS4 inventory left unsold with the dealerships, especially in the Delhi NCR area.

The official announcement made by the brand further added that the brand will bear the interest cost of BS-VI inventory (physical plus transit) with the dealers for the 21 days of the lockdown.

Commenting on the announcement of the support package, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, director of sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India said, “The support package will effectively provide immediate liquidity to our dealer partners and we are confident that it will comprehensively ease their business continuity anxiety and improve cash flow.”

As per a recent report by NDTV, the Supreme court has rejected the plea filed by FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Association) demanding a one-month extension to sell BS4 vehicles in the Indian market. The BS6 emission norms will come into effect from April 1, 2020, and after that, no BS4 vehicles would be allowed to be sold or registered in India.

Earlier, the Indian government had announced that they will skip the BS5 emission norms and adopt BS6 emission norms in 2020. The plea that was filed by FADA came for the hearing before a bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta. The counsel that appeared from the association’s side told the bench that – “if the Supreme Court order will be enforced from April 1, 2020, dealers would face the issue of unsold inventory of BS4 vehicles. As there is a slowdown in the automobile industry, kindly allow them to sell BS4 vehicles to clear the stock.”

The bench replied saying that – “the order was passed by the Supreme court one and a half years ago. The carmakers should not have produced BS4 vehicles after that and even after filing this application, they have produced these vehicles. Hence the application is dismissed.”

The court further said that they will not give even one-day extension to sell the BS4 vehicles after the implementation of BS6 emission norms on April 1. The association counsel urged the apex court that their application is a mercy plea but the bench refused to hear it.

Back in October 2018, the Supreme court had said that any extension of time in introducing new emission norms would harmfully impact the health of citizens as pollution has reached critical levels. They said that there would be no compromise on the health of citizens.
