Mahindra Gusto CBS Officially Launched in India: Mahindra has launched the CBS-equipped variants of Gusto 125cc and 110cc scooters in the Indian market. The addition of new Combi Braking System (CBS), which is now mandatory for vehicles under 125cc displacement, has strategically added to a price hike varying from INR 2,340 to INR 2,816 for both the Gusto variants. Here is the new price list of multiple variants of Mahindra Gusto CBS:

  • 110 DX CBS: INR 50,996
  • 110 VX CBS: INR 55,660
  • 125 VX CBS: INR 58,137

The brand is yet to equip the RX variant of the Gusto 110 with the Combi Braking System. Apart from this, the Gusto 125 DX has been pulled off from the portfolio recently.

Besides the addition of CBS, the Mahindra scooters retain their technical specifications as well as the features. The Gusto features a remote key system in addition to being equipped with a guide lamp as well as find-me lamps. The scooters have also been equipped with adjustable seat height to accommodate riders of varying proportions.

Powering the Gusto 110 is the same 109.6cc engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 8HP and 9Nm of maximum torque while the Gusto 125 gets its power from a 124.6cc that generates a max power of 8.5HP and a peak torque of 10Nm.

Both engine variants are mated to a CVT transmission. The suspension duties on both the scooters are handled by telescopic forks at the front while the rear has been equipped with conventional shock absorbers. Both the 125cc and 110cc scooters feature drum brakes at either end.

The Mahindra Gusto competes in the market with the likes of Honda Activa, Hero Maestro, Suzuki Access, Yamaha Fascino, and the TVS Jupiter. In addition to this, the brand is also planning on launching the electric variant of the Gusto, which will be based on the underpinnings of the currently available petrol version, though getting an all-electric powertrain.

According to the recent reports, Bajaj is all set to launch an all-new 125cc motorcycle under the Pulsar banner. The upcoming Pulsar 125 CBS is expected to launch in India next month. The earlier rumours suggested that the new motorcycle will be launched as Pulsar NS125, which is already available in the international markets. But as per the latest details available, the India-spec model will be based on the Pulsar 150 Neon.

Launching the 125cc Pulsar in India would turn out to be one of the best decisions made by the brand considering the affordable price tag as well as the strong foothold of the Pulsar brand in India. The Bajaj Pulsar 125 is expected to become one of the most cost-effective choices under the Pulsar banner.

India-Spec Bajaj Pulsar 125
India-Spec Bajaj Pulsar 125 will be Based on the Pulsar 150 Neon

If the recent reports are correct, the Pulsar 125 CBS will be based on the design language of the Pulsar 150 Neon while getting a 125cc engine. The motorcycle is expected to feature a single-seat saddle with no fuel tank extensions.

We can expect the upcoming bike to feature a halogen headlight with LED DRLs at the front in addition to a semi-digital instrument panel as well as a muscular fuel tank. The upcoming 125cc Pulsar is expected to get a 240mm disc brake at the front and a 130mm drum brake at the rear while the bike will come equipped with CBS (Combined Braking System) as a standard safety feature.

It is also being said that the Bajaj Pulsar 125’s engine will be based on the engine of Pulsar 135 that is capable of generating a maximum power figure of 13.5 HP and a peak torque figure of 12 Nm. The engine will be tuned to deliver better mileage and performance. It will be mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The upcoming Pulsar 125 is expected to get a price range in between INR 60,000-65,000 (ex-showroom).

Piaggio Vespa ZX 125 CBS has been launched in India for INR 77,481 (ex-showroom). The model is available in two different variants, with the above-mentioned price effective for the drum brake ZX 125 and INR 81,981 for the disc brake variant.

The Vespa ZX is based on the LX 125, gaining the disc brake variant and an all-new name for 2019. Apart from the CBS addition, the regular variant not just looks but also feels the same. The standard headlamp design, chrome mirrors, and chrome exhaust cover flaunt the traditional Vespa designing with pride. The instrument console used on the model is the same semi-digital unit as remaining Vespa models.

The 125cc, single cylinder engine on the scooter is good for 9.8 HP at 7500 rpm and 10.6 Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine comes mated to an automatic gearbox. The most happening factor for the Vespa series is the use of a monocoque chassis, single-sided front suspension, and alloy wheels.

The combi-braking system is now a mandatory feature for all products under the 125cc segment while the anti-lock braking system is seen as standard on products with displacement higher than the 125cc benchmark. As the addition of disc brake makes the ZX 125 safer than the LX model, the number of buyers is expected to increase for the most affordable Vespa.

Those who are looking into performance can visit the Aprilia dealership as they use the same engines with a different set of body panels to enhance the sporty character in the gearless division. The pricing of Aprilia scooters is also highly justified in front of the Vespa options. Vespa and Aprilia are posting profitable numbers after a long time as buyers are now willing to spend more on a scooter, especially after the arrival of rivals like Suzuki Burgman Street and TVS NTorq 125.

2019 Honda Navi CBS has been launched in India for INR 47,110 (ex-showroom). The not-so-popular two-wheeler had earlier got more practical options than ever, adding all-new fuel gauge, metal exhaust protector and body-coloured headlight cover, rear view mirrors, and grab rail. 2019 Honda Navi comes in Patriot Red, Shasta White, Black, Ladakh Brown, Ranger Green and Sparky Orange shade. The brand offers tubeless tires, telescopic front forks, and 100kg of low weight through the Navi. The current-gen model is also available without CBS for INR 45,314.

The difference of almost INR 2,000 in the price of non-CBS and CBS model is not at all justified as they charge almost INR 500 for the technology in their existing models. Honda is yet to offer ABS in the Unicorn 160 while all other models are now equipped with ABS or CBS in the country. The sales for Navi are down to a negligible number and most buyers still prefer an Activa over the same.

The fun-to-ride machine comes with an Activa sourced frame and engine setup. The refined 109cc, single cylinder engine is good for 8 HP at 7000 rpm and 8.94 Nm at 5500 rpm. Being lighter than the others, Navi is a great option when a city-specific commute is your first choice. The 3.5-litre fuel tank is good for 150km of range before the desperate need of a refill. The front tire on Honda Navi measures 90/90-12 while the rear is a smaller 90/100-10 unit (similar to Activa 125).

2019 Honda Navi CBS Specs

  • Displacement – 109.2 cc
  • Maximum Power – 8 HP @ 7000 rpm
  • Maximum Torque – 8.94 NM @ 5500 rpm
  • Number of Cylinders – 1
  • Number of Gears – Automatic
  • Seat Height – 765 mm
  • Ground Clearance – 156 mm
  • Kerb/Wet Weight – 100 kg
  • Fuel Tank Capacity – 3.5 litres
  • Top Speed – 81 kmph (Approx.)

Honda has introduced the CBS on the drum brake variants of CB Shine and Shine SP for INR 60,013 and INR 65,269 respectively. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom. The price for the addition varies largely when considering different motorcycle and variant combination.

For Honda CB Shine, the INR 559 of price hike was seen on the CBS-equipped variant while the same feature on the disc brake equipped model is INR 2,906. On the other hand, Honda CB Shine SP is available with drum brake and CBS combination for a price jump of INR 559. The disc brake variant is seen with a price hike of INR 1,991. This shows that Honda is clearly keeping a large number of profits from the higher selling disc brake variants. The technology is not that expensive as seen from the top-spec models.

The addition of basic safety feature has taken the price to an unbelievable point for a 125cc motorcycle from Honda. In fact, the price tag of INR 64,998 for the Pulsar 150 Neon feels highly justified when considering that disc brake variant of CB Shine costs INR 62,998. Also, the CB Shine SP is totally overpriced with INR 68,015 as the price tag of the top-spec model. The 125cc engine is good for 10.16 BHP and 10.30 Nm on both the bikes, with CB Shine SP featuring 5-speed gearbox and better styling. The heaviest variant among all others weighs 123 kg while both the models are available with a fuel tank capacity of 10.5-litres.

Honda CB Shine Specs

  • Displacement – 124.7 cc
  • Maximum Power – 10.16 Bhp @ 7500 rpm
  • Maximum Torque – 10.30 Nm @ 5500 rpm
  • Number of Cylinders – 1
  • Number of Gears – 4
  • Seat Height – 790 mm
  • Ground Clearance – 157 mm
  • Fuel Tank Capacity – 10.5 litres

Suzuki Access 125 drum brake variant is now available in India with CBS for a price tag of INR 56,667. The non-CBS model is priced at INR 55,977 and thus, the gap is smaller than usual at just INR 690. On the other hand, the gap between non-CBS and CBS disc brake variant is INR 1,286. The most expensive special edition variant with disc brake commands a price difference of INR 1,189 between the CBS and non-CBS models. Within the next eight weeks, the Access 125 lineup will be limited to just three variants. This will include the SE variant, available only on the top-spec Access with a disc brake. The current Access 125 range falls between INR 55,977-61,235 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Suzuki Access 125 Drum Brake CBS Model

The addition of disc brake is justified on the Access 125 as the brand also adds alloy wheels to the package within INR 3,600. The buyers going for drum brake variant get steel wheels as the part of cost-cutting plans by Suzuki. However, rivals are charging much more than expected for their scooters as Honda Activa 125 base variant is priced higher than the top-spec model of Access 125. Not just Suzuki, every brand will have to discontinue their products without CBS and ABS in India from April 1, 2019. Those who are retailing both non-CBS and CBS variants will cut their number of variants to meet the upcoming safety standards. Different brands charge different values for the features.

Suzuki Access 125 Specs

  • Displacement – 124 cc
  • Maximum Power – 8.7 HP @ 7000 rpm
  • Maximum Torque – 10.2 NM @ 5000 rpm
  • Number of Cylinders – 1
  • Number of Gears – CVT
  • Seat Height – 773 mm

  • Kerb/Wet Weight – 101 kg
